A special perspective

The EF 14mm f/2.8L II USM goes beyond human perspective, taking in a massive 114° field of view. A corrected, rectilinear design make this an ideal lens for architecture, interiors and landscapes. its ultra wide-angle nature gives a strong separation between foreground and background elements.

L-series quality

The L-series is Canon's flagship professional lens range, representing the best in precision-designed EF optics. L-series lenses combine superior performance with superlative handling, and are resistant to dust and moisture.

Fast maximum aperture

A maximum aperture of f/2.8 allows photographers to shoot hand-held in low-light conditions without worrying about blur from camera shake.

Aspherical and UD elements

For optimum visual performance the lens incorporates aspherical elements to correct spherical aberrations, and Super UD (ultra-low dispersion) elements to eliminate chromatic aberrations. The result is crisp, high-contrast images that are free from distortion all the way across the frame.

Ultrasonic focusing

A ring-type ultrasonic motor drives autofocus extremely quickly, and in near silence. Excellent holding torque ensures the point of focus is reached accurately, without overshooting. Furthermore, full-time manual override is available, making it possible to adjust focus without leaving AF mode.

Super Spectra coating

Super Spectra coatings help ensure accurate colour balance and high contrast. They also suppress flare and ghosting by absorbing light that would otherwise be reflected off internal lens elements and the camera's digital sensor.

Circular aperture

A circular aperture delivers smooth, even-looking background blur - ideal for isolating subjects against a blurred background.

The EF 14mm f/2.8L II USM features an integrated lens hood that protects the front lens element and improves contrast. Its petal shaped design prevents vignetting. A lens cap and soft case are also supplied.

Product Reviews

Strong construction, Durable, Sharp focus, Lightweight, Small
Heavy, Pricey

The Canon EF 14 mm f/2.8L USM II lens comes with a price tag of at least 8,000 PLN. The rival Samyang 14 mm f/2.8 ED AS IF UMC is available for a bit more than 1,000 PLN. The difference in price is so huge that we can speak here about a clash between a Goliath and a David.

Overall, this lens performs pretty well, and is capable of producing excellent sharpness in the centre of the frame, and very good sharpness towards the edges. Unfortunately it is very expensive, especially for an ultra-wide angle prime lens that may see limited use.

A high-performance ultra-wide-angle lens with remarkable flatness of field.Canon’s EF 14mm f/2.8L II USM lens replaces an existing lens with similar specifications. Designed for professional photographers and usable on both ‘full frame’ DSLRs and models with smaller (‘APS-C sized’) image sensors, it...

Camera Labs

The widest prime lens in the Canon catalogue is a real gem: the EF 14mm f2.8L II USM, now in an improved Mark II version, delivers ultra-wide coverage without any of the distortion of a fisheye.

At almost £2000, this pricey L series optic puts in as good a performance as expected

SLR Lens and Camera Reviews

Canon EF 14mm f/2.8L II USM is a very solid ultra wide angle prime, easily one of the best ultra wide primes in native Canon EF mount. This does not mean that the lens is without any flaws - vignetting, flare, color fringing and distortion are all present to varying degree and can cause some...

The Digital Picture

The Canon EF 14mm f/2.8L II USM Lens is currently my favorite ultra-wide angle EF lens . For many years, my preferred full-frame-capable ultra-wide angle lens was the Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L USM Lens and then its replacement, the even better (at the wide end at least) Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM...

An ultra-wide angle lens, which sports a fast maximum aperture of f/2.8 and silent focusing with full-time manual focus override. This lens certainly isn't inexpensive, being available for around £1850. In this review we'll take a look at how it performs and whether the premium price is justified.

Imaging Resource

If you were reading this in order to decide whether an upgrade from the current Canon EF 14mm ƒ/2.8 is worth it, the answer is an unequivocal yes: Canon seems to have improved just about everything that is physically possible to improve upon with this lens.

best ultra wide angle you can buy, there is no competition.

Try using the 14mm on a full frame camera without a major grin on your face.

I really want to give this lens 5 stars, but it's corner sharpness is just not good enough for a perfect score. It's not as sharp as some other Canon prime lenses, but it's more difficult to make a super sharp lens at such a wide angle. It's still sharper than the 16-35mm L.

B&H Photo

After one photoshoot I am convinced that this lens is a staple for real estate and interior design photography. The scope, colors, and clarity that this lens produces is unmatched. I was delighted that there was very little distortion on the edges.

Imaging Resource

I had to get this lens twice to get a sharp copy, 1st one was off on the right center edge. This one I have now is perfect and handles distortion and CA very well and sharp right to the edge.

A stunning wide angle landscape lens on APS-C. APS-C reviews on this lens are rare. I'm using this lens on the new 80D. 22.5mm after the crop factor is perfect for wide landscape work. Images are edge to edge sharp from f/8 to f/16 and barrel distortion is minimal.

B&H Photo

Love this lens, love it's perspective. Since purchasing three weeks ago it has hardly left my camera. Takes some practice learning how to use it. Sharp, minimal distortion - the beauty of a prime lens. Keep the lens cap on when not taking photos to protect the bulbous front element.

I tested this lens on a full frame camera at every aperture under a variety of settings. The lens was not real sharp, even in the center, until around f/8 and showed a lot of distortion towards the edges regardless of the aperture setting.

B&H Photo

After a lifetime of photography, I am seldom surprised with exceptional quality equipment, but this amazes me. It is just plain better than good. With my full size sensors the wide , sharp view is very impressive and avoids the fish eye effect that I wish to avoid.

B&H Photo

This lens is really great for capturing unique close-up action sport photos (skiing/skateboarding/mtn biking), tight architectural spaces (real estate), or wrap-around landscapes like a tight canyon wall to wall (great for Bryce Canyon.)
