L-series quality
The L-series is Canon's flagship professional lens range, representing the best in precision-designed EF optics. L-series lenses combine superior performance with superlative handling, and are resistant to dust and moisture.
Hybrid Image Stabilizer
The new Image Stabilizer designed specifically for inclusion in a macro lens. It is able to correct lens shift movement as well as the angular movement that most IS systems can correct. This provides 2-stops of correction during 1.0x magnification, increasing to 3-stops at 0.5x magnification and 4-stops during normal shooting.
Ultra low dispersion (UD) lens element ensures high image quality
A UD element within the lens design effectively removes chromatic aberration. This allows for excellent image quality with high resolution, high contrast and excellent colour reproduction.
Focus limiter switch
To enhance the photographer’s use of the lens, it is fitted with a 3 position focus limiter switch. With limits for close up subjects, distant subjects and all subjects, the user is able to increase the autofocus speed making quick shots a possibility.
Beautiful background blur with 9 blade circular aperture
A circular blade aperture helps to create attractive, even background bokeh when isolating subjects at wide apertures.
Fast quiet autofocus
The ring USM (Ultrasonic Motor) drives extremely rapid autofocus with near-silent operation. Full time mechanical manual focus override is available without having to switch out of AF. The lens offers a minimum focusing distance of 0.3m.

In short, this is clearly a very impressive lens in all respects. It is also keenly priced. Yes, for only about £150 more you could buy Canon’s very capable 24-105mm f/4 zoom, which is a better all-rounder, but the 100mm macro is not meant to be an all-rounder: it has been conceived for one specific...
Verdict: Though this lens is expensive, it has a lot to offer. It has weather-sealing, image stabilisation and near-silent auto-focus. However, if you don’t own a Canon camera, this lens isn’t going to fit.
It is practically a faultless lens. If anybody wants to exchange the older EF 100 mm f/2.8 Macro USM model for the new L series and can afford it, there shouldn’t be a moment’s hesitation. You can gain in everything – picture quality, barrel quality, stabilization.
Canon's first macro lens with image stabilisation. Here we see whether it's one 'L' of a lens.
Canon’s premium 100mm L-series macro offers 123mm of sturdy plastic design, but with a respectable weight of 625g. The standout feature is the Hybrid optical IS, helping negate rotational and linear camera shake and giving back 4 stops, though less at 1x magnification.
A high-quality macro lens with specially-designed image stabilisation plus dust- and moisture-resistant sealing.Back in July 2009, Canon announced a new ‘hybrid’ image stabilisation system designed for macro photography.
I consider a telephoto macro lens to be a mandatory part of my kit and always include the best available option. What is the best Canon macro lens? Focus shift aside, the Canon RF 100mm F2.8 L Macro IS USM Lens is that lens.
If you like to photograph small things, such as stamps, coins, butterflies, bugs, maybe even hummingbirds or toy trains like me, adding the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM lens to your system is a must.
I've had many Canon lenses over many years of my photography hobby and can say that this Macro lens does not disappoint! The quality of the product is second to none, and it makes an excellent addition to my kit.Secondly it's also a great portrait lens, so multi purpose making it even better...
Right, please don't consider me an expert in macro, I bought this lens to learn and discover a new form of photography. I love it. The world gets so much bigger when you're searching for small details. Fast autofocus but macro does require patience and reframing a lot. But holy hell. I love it.
I have the 60mm macro lens but this lens is far better. You don't have to get as close. Can easily take shots of bugs without getting too close and scaring them off and is also great hand held. There are a few pics attached that I took on the day of purchase in the garden.
A superb lens, both lovely to use and well balanced. I'm used to the EF version, but this has a greater magnification; great results
I had wanted a macro lens for a while, and after reading reviews online this was the one I decided on. I was lucky to get the last one in stock! It has lived up to the reviews, a really great lens to use, very clear pictures and detail.
When I first read the reviews and the feedback of the fortunate photographers using this lens before release, i was expecting this to be a great lens.... and when I finally got mine (preordered as soon as it was possible) i went out to test it. And i was blown away!
This is a professional Canon Lens which says it all! Strong construction, razor sharp and as well as being one of the best (if no the best!) Macro lens on the market it is also a superb portrait lens. It is a worthy addition to my camera bag, go on, buy it you know it makes sense!
A great addition to the kit, a solidly built L series lens with excellent image quality. Additional IS feature is highly effective. Fast, silent, and accurate autofocus.
