Canon 50mm f1.8 STM EF

  • EF-Mount Lens/Full-Frame Format
  • Aperture Range: f/1.8 to f/22
  • Super Spectra Coating
  • STM Stepping AF Motor
  • Rounded 7-Blade Diaphragm
  • A fantastic lens for portraits
  • Fast, virtually silent focusing
  • A great performer in low-light conditions
  • Super-sharp image quality
  • Compact ‘go-everywhere’ design

A fantastic lens for portraits

The EF 50mm f/1.8 STM blurs the background behind your subject so they really stand out. It will also let you fill the frame without getting uncomfortably close, making it easier to get a natural expression on their face.

When used on a full-frame EOS camera the EF 50mm f/1.8 STM acts as a standard lens, giving a perspective, similar to that of the human eye – ideal for high-quality everyday photography.

Fast, virtually silent focusing

Near-silent STM technology focuses extremely quickly when shooting still photos, so you can react suddenly to capture fleeting moments. When capturing video focusing is smoother and slower, for footage that has a professional cinematic look to it.

A great performer in low-light conditions

The EF 50mm f/1.8 STM lets in lots of light, so you can keep shooting even when conditions begin to get dark. Capture the mood of the moment using atmospheric available light – you’ll love the results!

Super-sharp image quality

This fixed, non-zooming lens delivers superb images, whether you’re shooting photos or movies. Sharpness is enhanced, contrast is boosted and distortion is reduced for a more natural result.

The glass elements used in the EF 50mm f/1.8 STM are layered with Canon’s bespoke Super Spectra coating, which prevents flare and ghosting when shooting into the light.

Compact ‘go-everywhere’ design

The diminutive EF 50mm f/1.8 STM weighs just 160g and is only 40mm long, so you’ll always have room for it in your bag. A tactile manual focus ring is easy to find and use without taking the camera away from your eye.

Coming a couple of years after the 200D made its debut, the 250D sits almost at the bottom of Canon’s DSLR line-up, designed to capture the imagination of beginner photographers. Many of the same specifications have been carried over from its older model, but one interesting new addition is 4K video...

TechRadar UK

The EOS Rebel SL3 / EOS 250D blends a number of tried-and-tested features with a mount that accepts an endless array of lenses, and its small size, battery life and general performance are all solid.

The Canon EOS 250D offers a compact DSLR, with Canon’s typical, and excellent, colour reproduction. Noise performance is improved compared to other entry-level Canon, and Nikon DSLRs.

A camera with the potential to turn keen photographers into obsessives. Good value for money meets good usability and image quality

Experienced DSLR users may find the Canon EOS 250D a little too simplistic, with its guided user interface being offered from the get-go. However, for newcomers its user-friendly handling, compact dimensions, straightforward menus, control layout and operation, plus a decent image quality,...

An ideal starter’s DSLR that can take lovely photos so long as you work within its limitations

Photography BLOG

The Canon EOS 250D / Rebel SL3 is a rather modest upgrade of the 2-year-old Canon EOS 200D / Rebel SL2, principally adding 4K video recording, a much-improved Live View experience and longer battery life to justify its introduction.

DP Review

The Canon EOS Rebel SL3 is a great option for beginners that are looking to get serious about photography. It's comfortable to hold, fun to use, and has a useful guide mode to help you learn photography's basics in real time.

Steve's Digicams

What We Love. The simple, lightweight design of the Canon Rebel EOS SL3 DSLR camera makes it perfect to use for a full day of photography while on the move. It has multiple lenses available, so you gain far more versatility in the types of photos you can shoot versus a mirrorless ILC.

PC Magazine

The Canon EOS Rebel SL3 is one the smallest SLRs available, but its autofocus system struggles with fast-moving subjects.

I have had the 250D for almost two years now and I have found that it has been a brilliant product to begin my photography journey. The 24..1Megapixel CMOS sensor provides plenty of detail and its autofocus system is intuitive in its use and nails focus the majority of the time.

I went shopping to find a camera and came across Castle Cameras who are know for their expert knowledge. I was served by a very helpful and knowledgeable person who sold me exactly what I was looking for. I highly recommend this shop for their expertise and excellent personal shopping experience.

Have had the camera for a few weeks and have used it several times it a nice light weight camera that sits nice in the hand the only disappointing factor about it is that it doesn't come with a small pocket manual like they used to

Great Novice / Vlogger camera with a 3″ flipout screen. Kit lens is basic but 50mm or 24mm pancake lens works well with this camera to give a good vlogging setup. Preset filters are mediocre and is probably best to use in post production.

For an entry level camera and your not confident and just want to use the auto setting this is the camera for you. As when using other settings it tells you on the touch screen what to do or what the setting you've chosen, what it does.

I was looking for a camera which I could use for my videography and photography work with ease and this camera does exactly that! The built in features allows for an easy colour grade on the go, with a light camera that produces amazingly sharp images. Would highly recommend!

Great entry level camera. Feels light and has sufficient functions which are reasonably easy to use.

Brilliant great pictures easy to use very impressed want another make but trouble getting it so bought this instead but I am not disappointed

Just a beginner. Wanted to learn and be able to take good photos and video. Studied reviews of this camera and just what I required starting out. Really pleased with the product and all it’s accessories. Willing to learn how to use it properly which will take some time. Would recommend this camera.

An excellent beginners DSLR

I’ve always been a fan of Canon and this little beauty has not disappointed. It’s a bit of a smaller body which has made it great just to Chuck in a bag and carry around for the sunny walks. I like the ability to have to kinds of menu on the camera ,one telling you things, teaching you affectively and the other traditional know what your doing menu. Transferring photos to your phone on the fly was a breeze. Quickly editing to post. I also us the camera to live stream too... it produces clean crisp video and can do 4K if you so desire.
