See the world up close

Compact and lightweight, the SEL30M35 is a true 1:1 macro lens with a 2.4cm minimum working distance. It renders close-up detail with superb resolution and contrast.

Smooth defocusing

Instead of a standard polygon-shaped lens aperture, this lens features a 7-blade circular aperture for more natural, rounded defocusing or ‘bokeh’.

Refined optical performance

Aspherical lens elements minimise distortion while ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements provide superior contrast, resolution, and colour fidelity.

Fast, agile focusing

An internal focusing mechanism means the lens barrel doesn’t move, enabling a more compact design, faster autofocus response, and reduced minimum focusing distances.

  • Light, compact macro lens delivering high image quality
  • Ideal for close-ups of flowers, insects and small subjects as well as non-macro everyday shooting
  • 1:1 magnification ratio for frame-filling close-ups, with small subjects captured at actual size on camera's image sensor
  • Minimum working distance from front of lens to subject of just 2.4cm, and minimum focusing distance of 9.5cm
  • Quality optics with aspherical lens elements and ED glass for excellent sharpness and clarity at all apertures and focus settings
  • Linear focus motor drive for smooth, quiet, fast focusing during HD movie shooting
  • Internal focusing mechanism maintains constant distance from front of lens to subject
  • Stylish, compact design with refined metal finish to blend with camera body
  • Supplied with lens hood (allows attachment of optional filter)

A modest cost, a small, compact lens and an excellent central performance make up this attractive lens. The edges do let the lens down at normal working distances, but this does seem to improve as we focus closer.

PC Magazine

The Sigma 30mm F2.8 DN is a sharp, compact prime lens for Sony and Micro Four Thirds mirrorless cameras, but it doesn't offer image stabilization.

OpticalLimits

The Sony E 30mm f/3.5 macro lens delivered a rather disappointing performance on the Sony NEX 7. The center image quality is absolutely great but the border- and especially corner-quality is sub-standard. The rather high amount of lateral CAs isn't helpful either.

SLR Lens and Camera Reviews

Sony first announced its 30mm f/3.5 Macro for the burgeoning NEX system in mid 2011. Unfortunately, due to the 2011 flooding in Thailand, the production of this and several other lenses were delayed and first shipments of the E 30mm/3.5 did not start until late 2011/yearly 2012.

Imaging Resource

For a very portable macro experience, the Sony 30mm ƒ/3.5 is one of the few options in the NEX lineup, offering about as much bang as you would expect for its price tag. With good results for sharpness, corner shading and distortion, the only hesitation might be higher-than-desired results for...

PC Magazine

The Sony E 30mm F3.5 Macro is an affordable, lightweight macro lens. It focuses really close, but be wary of its short working distance.

I wanted to try macro-photography, but I just wanted to see if it's something I like. This lens isn't expensive and is super sharp! You can get close to the subject and after you learned to work with it, you can make great pictures with it. It's a very great lens to start with macro-photography.

Being a mirrorless Sony user, I needed a solution for macro work and this lens fits the requirement very well. The attached photo shows dew droplets - notice the lens created by the largest deop [~2mm dia] and the detail of the actual web and micro droplets.

The only drawback of this lens is that it has a 30mm focal length which means that the front of the lens is very close to the subject at full magnification. I have used this lens for both macro and general photography and it works well for both. It has decent sharpness and contrast.

• How I use the product I take photos as a hobby. I mainly use this lens with Sony a6000 and the duo works well. I also use the SELP1650 with an extension tube but I found that this lens produces better results.

Wex Photo Video

I have attached a picture of a fly I took with this lens & my NEX-3, this picture was taken hand held and using the auto focus as the fly didn't want to stay still - I think this is a great example of the capabilities of this lens. I have also used for non-macro pictures with great results.

This is still a new accessory for my camera and I have not put it to full use yet, but will be later this weekend. I did a quick trial and was amazed by the initial quality of the close up photos that I took.

This lens is well built, amazingly light so that makes carrying it around a breeze. Is able to get near to objects for that macro shot. Please consider adding this as a must have lens if you are into macro photogpraphy.

It is very good value for money and is an affordable entry to macro photography. It has a short focal length and you have to get close the subject. If you can afford a lens with a longer focal length it will give more flexibility but at greater codt

Beautiful lens and takes spectacular photos
