Product Details

Nikon 105mm f2.8 VR MC S Nikkor Z

With its 1:1 reproduction ratio, flawless focusing, and superb rendering abilities, the professional NIKKOR Z MC 105mm f/2.8 VR S is a master of the life-size shot. Optimised for macro shooting in stills or video, its medium-telephoto angle of view also makes it a stunning lens for detailed portraiture: sharpness and contrast are incredible, and so is bokeh. Control is precise and flexible, and photographers can reverse the focus direction of this lens, which is an advantage when working in a mixed production environment.

This 105 mm S-Line mirrorless lens brings new levels of depth and clarity to macro and close-up shooting. Thanks to its incredible light-gathering and focusing capabilities, sharpness and contrast are superb—and so is bokeh. Sublime close-ups. Mesmerising portraits. From still photography to video work, you’ll set your subject apart like never before.

Professional f/2.8 mid-telephoto macro lens: S-Line next dimension optical design. Smooth, silent multi-focusing system.

Lifelike images with remarkable depth: the wide Z mount and fixed f/2.8 rounded 9-blade aperture enable perfectly rounded natural-looking bokeh.

Fast, flawless focusing: sharpness is superb from close-up to infinity. Colour fringing is dramatically reduced, allowing the AF system to find focus with incredible speed and accuracy.

Beautifully clear: Nikon’s anti-reflective ARNEO and Nano Crystal coatings combat ghosting and flare. In-lens Vibration Reduction (VR) combines with in-camera VR for steady handheld shots even in low light.

Close-up precision: the minimum focus distance is just 0.29 m and the AF focus limiter allows rapid acquisition of subjects from 0.29–0.50 m. In MF, you can adjust the focus throw to match your preferred way of working.

Macro video: benefit from quiet AF and smooth, stable aperture control. Focus breathing is all but eliminated so you can shift focus without affecting the shot's angle of view.

Nikon versatility: you can reverse the focus direction of this lens, and it accepts the same 62 mm screw-on filters as the renowned AF-S Micro-NIKKOR 105mm.

Built to work: the mount and all moving parts are sealed to keep dust and moisture out. Nikon’s fluorine coating repels water, dust, and dirt.

We had to wait quite a while for a native Z-mount Nikon macro lens, and then two came along at once. The 105mm f/2.8 VR is the more advanced (and more expensive) of the two, but it provides stunning results for lovers of close-up photography.

ePHOTOzine

The Z series of lenses continues to offer extraordinary optics and in this case at least, with a reasonable price tag to go with it. The 105mm focal length is versatile and covers a multitude of subjects and is well established as a firm favourite in macro lenses.

Amateur Photographer

Nikon has filled a gap in its Z lens line-up and introduced two macro lenses. Angela Nicholson puts the pro-level MC 105mm f/2.8 VR S lens through its paces.

PC Magazine

The Nikon Nikkor Z MC 105mm F2.8 VR S is an exceptionally sharp macro lens, with the added benefit of optical stabilization for better handheld results.

Camera Jabber

The Nikon Z-series lens line-up now has two macro lenses and they’re both very good, but the Nikkor Z MC 105mm f/2.8 VR S has a few refinements that make it worth the extra money over the Nikkor Z MC 50mm f/2.8.

Camera Labs

Nikon's Z MC 105mm f2.8 VR S is a very good macro lens which also doubles up as a light telephoto. It produces very sharp images with almost no field-curvature or colour aberrations and can confidently be used wide open and in challenging contra-light situations.

Camera Decision

Nikon Z MC 105mm F2.8 VR S is an Auto Focus (AF) Macro Prime lens with 35mm FF max sensor coverage and it is designed to be used with Nikon Z mount cameras. Nikon Z MC 105mm F2.8 VR S is a member of Nikon's S-Line series of lenses. Below you can see the latest lenses in this series.

Its a lovely lens and a joy to use. Although I had to wait some months for it (down to Nikon and not WEX) it is worth the wait.

another excellent Z lens. Bought mainly to use as a short out and about telephoto lens.

The quality of this lens is outstanding. Super sharp.

Nikon

As someone who shot with the 85mm 1.8 for 90% of their portfolio, I didn't think there was a lens that could rival the quality that it gave me.
It's safe to say I was wrong when Nikon released this 105mm which has given me texture and character that other lenses haven't.

Great Z mount full frame macro lens! Sharp as a tack and autofocus is fast and accurate. Doubles as a very nice portrait lens.

I have used Nikon 'Micro' lenses for over 40 years, owning at least 5 models. This is the best one yet!. Higher resolution in practice, less colour distortion, and easier to get consistent results. Focus stacking in "Focus Shift" is better with the Z7 2 than with a D850 and a Tamron 90mm I have been using recently. Macro performance is exemplary. Following fast moving spider-mites in magnified live view allowed me to get good pictures at the minimum focussing distance. Semi telephoto performance is excellent giving excellent separation of greens in vegetation shots. I do not recognise the comments in some reviews that this lens is weaker at distance. I think it records the scenes accurately.
