The Nikon Nikkor Z 24-200mm f/4-6.3 VR is a complex lens in terms of construction and also in terms of performance. However, there's no doubt that as a general-purpose travel zoom it could be just so useful that any disadvantages become far outweighed.

Ultra-compact telephoto zoom lens
Going on a trip? With its wide 24–200 mm zoom range and beautiful bokeh, this fast-focusing mirrorless telephoto zoom could be the only lens you’ll need. It’s lightweight, easily fits into smaller kit bags, captures richly detailed stills and movies, and is sealed to protect from dust and moisture.
Frame it wide, frame it close
This full-frame wide-angle to telephoto zoom lens delivers stills and movies with beautiful detail, vivid colour, and smooth bokeh. Focusing is fast and quiet, and in-lens VR helps keep every shot steady. Ideal, whether you’re photographing a cramped medina at dusk, or filming sunrise over a wide-open plain.
Deep contrast
Aspherical ED glass and aspherical lens elements ensure minimal distortion throughout the zoom range. You get sharp images with vivid colour and deep contrast whether shooting wide or telephoto.
Crisp and clear
Nikon’s ARNEO coat combats ghosting and flare for clearer images, even when shooting direct light sources at wide angles. Point light sources, such as streetlights at night, are reproduced faithfully.
Steady in low light
In-lens VR lets you shoot up to 4.5 stops slower than otherwise possible. Capture clearer telephoto shots as daylight fades, or film sweeping wide angles without the unwanted effects of camera shake.
Sharp up close
A flower growing through concrete. Patterns in landscapes and portraits. With a close focusing distance that starts at just 0.5 m (at 24 mm), you have complete control of the frame when you shoot close up.
Travel movies never looked so good
Capture beautiful full-frame video footage thanks to advanced NIKKOR optics that make the most of your Nikon Z camera’s superb image quality. Autofocus is whisper-quiet. Smooth, stable aperture control ensures natural exposure changes. Focus breathing is reduced as is focus-shift while zooming.
Compact, balanced, protected
This full-frame mirrorless lens makes travelling with a telephoto zoom a breeze. The large Z mount allows a unique design that places larger lens elements to the rear—enabling superb balance and handling.
Go everywhere
The lens is sealed to protect from dust and moisture. A fluorine coat effectively repels dust and dirt, without compromising image quality.
Do everything
This lens weighs in at just 570 g and allows use of 67 mm filters. The zoom-lock switch keeps the lens fully retracted when it’s stowed in your bag.

While the Nikkor Z 24-200mm f/4-6.3 VR isn’t particularly fast at longer focal lengths, it’s an impressive lens for its type. And while it may not please perfectionists, it’s a good match for the Nikon Z5 camera and caters very well for travellers and family photographers who want a single lens that...
The Nikkor Z 24-200mm F4-6.3 VR is built well, covers a wide range of angles, and nets sharp photos. It isn't a low-light wonder, but it's still a superzoom lens worth buying.
I'm a marine journalist, and whilst my 70-200 f2.8 is great ashore, I bought the 24-200 to use afloat - for two reasons. Firstly, it's much smaller and lighter; that matters when your holding onto a boat with one hand, or steadying a camera with a biggish sea running.

Have waited a long time for this lens to finally arrive but it was well worth the wait. For me it's just perfect, ie longer reach for wildlife and back to 24mm for more general photos. No problems with picture quality. I think it's a great lens
I purchased mine from WEX after trading in my Z 24-70 f4 S. I spent much time on reviews before I made the move but have no regrets whatsoever. Sharpness is indeed excellent at all focal lengths.
I don't normally buy super zoo lenses due to image quality... This one however is different, The quality is superb both for macro type and landscape shots. My only regret is that this lens was not available when the Z series launched.

I have been very impressed with the Lens so far. What a difference it makes to the weight of my kit carrying around this one lens instead of three. No complaints with sharpness.

It’s early days yet but I’m happy with the lens. It came well packed and very quickly from the supplier. I needed a bit more reach in lenses from the 24-70 and it will certainly be handy on away days and holidays when I only feel like carrying one lens about. I’ve gone totally mirrorless now mainly due to the weight I had to carry about and I’m fairly sure I’ve made a good choice with this lens. Time will tell……
Excellent all round go to lens for anything, I had the 24-70mm f4 kit lens and the 24-200mm blows it out of the water, very sharp, easy to use and it doesn’t creep when in the camera bag even with the lens lock off.
A very good quality lens, very pleased with it. For landscape photography I now just take this one lens.
Light, balanced, excellent zoom for its size. The perfect lens for a day out to suit many different situations and no need for any other lenses.
This lens is absolutely first-rate. Razor sharp, with quick and accurate autofocus. I would have liked f4 across the range, but this is compensated by the small size and small weight. Overall excellent. Build quality is awesome.
I was hesitant about this lens (on Z7ii) and thought about waiting for the 24-105. Well I should not have worried, it is excellent, very sharp in the centre and more than acceptable corners (my old 24-120 looked very soft after using this lens. The contrast is spot on, aberrations very well controlled and I am not worried by vignetting. Focus is quick and close focus very good, it covers all I need for walking and travel (even when I carry wide and telephoto 90% of the time they stay in the bag). Wish it had a func. button, AF/MF switch and a little less weight, that's all.
I sold my Nikon 70-200mm f/4 G lens as I wanted a native lens on my Z6 and Z7 instead of a noisy lens with FTZ adapter. After seeing the reviews by "Ricci Talks" on YouTube about how this 24-200mm compares to both the 24-70mm F/4S and 70-200mm F/4 G I am blown away with the quality. It is small, light and superbly designed with a front lens glass with a fluorine coating to repel dust and water and Arneo coating on some of the elements to prevent flare etc. The downside to the lens is the variable aperture, but it depends on what type of subjects you shoot. Low light photography is best done with one of the Nikon f/1.8 S lenses as F/6.3 at 200mm is limiting. But for a good daylight lens, versatile travel lens, landscape lens, close-up lens the 24-200mm fits the requirements very nicely.
Ideal all-round lens for the Z-series cameras. Fast response in allowing focus and shooting and idle for portrait, landscape and (for me) commercial transport photography.
