Overall Nikon should be really congratulated on their recent launches in that segment. Their line-up of kit lenses has always been good and rich. Now, spending a relatively small sum of money, amateur photographers might enlarge their focal range in practically both directions.

Capture sports, wildlife, concerts, landmarks—any faraway subjects—with phenomenal clarity and precision. But this lens isn't just about getting closer. Its superb optics and telephoto field of view produce beautiful portraits with softly blurred backgrounds. Versatile 70–300mm focal length
The AF-P DX NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3G ED VR is a phenomenal second lens and picks up where your 18-55mm lens leaves off. Compact and lightweight yet with a powerful zoom, it will help bring the most distant subjects into focus. Capture stunning close-ups of sports, wildlife, concerts, school events and so much more.
Outstanding Nikon image quality
Unleash the potential of your camera's high-resolution sensor. The AF-P DX NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3G ED VR features the superb optics and advanced technology used on Nikon's high-end lenses. Your photos and videos will have rich, vibrant colours, deep contrast, minimal distortion and beautiful soft backgrounds, even in less than ideal conditions.
VR image stabilization
Nikon's Vibration Reduction (VR) image stabilization keeps photos sharp and videos steady when shooting handheld. It also enhances your camera's low-light capabilities, allowing you to shoot at slower shutter speeds in dim lighting. Switch between Auto Focus and Manual Focus or turn VR on and off using the camera menu. With no switches on the lens barrel, you have no chance of accidentally changing settings when you want to take the shot.
Smooth, fast autofocus
The AF-P DX NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3G ED VR uses a pulse motor (utilizing stepping motors) that focuses extremely fast and is nearly silent. Bring subjects into focus instantly with absolute precision. When recording video, smoothly shift focus from subject to subject with practically no drive noise.
A Nikon in-lens technology that improves image stability by automatically compensating for camera shake. Lenses that offer VR will feature the abbreviation VR on the lens barrel.
ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) Glass
An optical glass developed by Nikon that is used with normal optical glass in telephoto lenses to obtain optimum correction of chromatic aberrations.
Select NIKKOR lenses have a focusing mode which allows switching from automatic to manual focusing with virtually no lag time by simply turning the focusing ring on the lens. This makes it possible to seamlessly switch to fine manual focusing while looking through the viewfinder.
Super Integrated Coating
Nikon Super Integrated Coating is Nikon's term for its multilayer coating of the optical elements in NIKKOR lenses.
Nikon's "P" series of NIKKOR lenses use a pulse motor (utilizing stepping motors) to focus smoother and quieter than previous drive systems. This quiet drive system makes the lenses ideal for use when shooting video.
This lens is compatible with D3000 series cameras from the D3300 onwards, D5000 series cameras from the D5200 onwards, and D7000 series cameras from the D7100 onwards. The D500 is also compatible. Please note that compatible cameras may require a firmware update.
The Nikon AF-P DX Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3G ED VR Lens is a great performer, especially when you consider the price. Currently, you can pick up the VR version for less than £300, while the non-VR version, which is otherwise the same, for less than £200.
The Nikon AF-P DX Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3G ED VR is a low-cost telezoom lens for DX format SLRs. It's light, compact, and delivers quality images as long as you don't zoom in all the way.
I was not satisfied with the Tamron 70-300 VC as a walk around lens, quality above 200mm not acceptable, misses sometimes spot on focus and the filter ring of the Tamron is too thin. Although the Nikon has some issues, it replaced the Tamron and I am very satisfied with this lens. Well done, Nikon
Handheld at 300mm this lens resolves very small print at 30 metres which my Nikon 200-500mm zoom at 500mm, handheld or rested, would not resolve! [I also tried the 200-500 at 300mm, but with the same result]. I tried this many times in different lights over two-days.
Excellent results at all focal lengths even when open at 300mm and exceptional when taking into account the price . Very quick and smooth auto focus. The VR is excellent allowing hand held shots down to a 40 th of a second. Very light allowing it to be carried on long walks with ease.
I replaced my Tamron 70-300 VC with this one. The AF is simply fantastic. Totally silent and basically it focuses immediately without any hunting in most of the cases. Its VR is also more efficient than the Tamron\'s. (I can take photos at 300mm with 1/15 with a good success ratio.
Now and again Nikon have a great lens that is overlooked because it appears on the budget side of the fence. Don't be fooled by the very reasonable price, this lens is as sharp as a razor and quick to focus, oh and very light and small for a 70-300.
As a beginner DSLR user, I bought this lens to be able to take sport pictures. I tested it out on some surfers at Bells Beach and was really really pleased with the quality of the shots.
Amazing lens for the price. Very fast focus with little or no hunting. Nice and sharp. On D7200 can't turn off VR, Nikon will need to provide a firmware update, but will they? D7200 the focus resets when camera goes into standby. Plastic lens mount. Never had one but no issues so far.
