A go-to lens for nearly any situation

With the Vibration Reduction (VR) equipped AF-P DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR on your DX-format DSLR, you'll be ready for anything. Part of Nikon's new "P" series of lenses, it uses a pulse motor (utilizing stepping motors) for ultra-fast, near silent autofocus and two Aspherical lens elements for outstanding optical performance. Capture wide landscapes and group photos one moment, then tight portraits, family sporting events and smooth HD video the next—all with phenomenal clarity and precision. VR image stabilization enhances your camera's low-light capabilities and keeps your videos steady. Compact, lightweight and extremely versatile, this lens will be your gateway to better photography.

Compact, lightweight all-around lens

This is a lens you'll take everywhere. Its 3.1x zoom range covers the highly versatile 18–55mm focal length range, great for everything from wide group shots and landscapes to family sports and portraits, even in dim lighting. A retractable barrel keeps the lens extremely compact, and its sleek, lightweight design perfectly complements Nikon's latest DX-format DSLRs. Shoot beautiful photos and HD videos with ease.

Outstanding Nikon image quality

Unleash the potential of your camera's high-resolution sensor. The AF-P DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR features the superb optics and advanced technology used on Nikon's high-end lenses. Two Aspherical lens elements achieve superior optical performance, giving your photos and videos rich, vibrant colours, deep contrast, minimal distortion and beautiful soft backgrounds, even in less than ideal conditions.

Nikon's Pulse Motor

Nikon's new "P" series of NIKKOR lenses use a pulse motor (utilizing stepping motors) to focus smoother and quieter than previous drive systems. Bring subjects into focus instantly with absolute precision. When recording video, smoothly shift focus from subject to subject with practically no drive noise.

VR image stabilization

Nikon's Vibration Reduction (VR) technology offsets the shakiness of handheld shooting for sharper photos and steady videos. In low-light situations, VR lets the camera use a slower shutter speed* to capture sharp photos—without blur. VR image stabilization gives you the benefits of a tripod without any extra gear. Switch between Autofocus and Manual Focus or turn VR on and off using the camera menu. With no switches on the lens barrel, you have no chance of accidentally changing settings when you want to take the shot.

TechRadar UK

It's now over three years old, but the Nikon D3500 remains the best DSLR around for beginners looking to embrace creative, manual photography with a traditional setup. Built around a solid core of great image quality, intuitive menus and a superb battery life, the D3500 now offers impressive value,...

Offering an impressive battery life, richly detailed images and a relatively compact build for its class, if you want a DSLR format camera and are just starting out on your photographic journey, then the Nikon D3500 is a can’t-go-wrong option.

Amateur Photographer

While the D3500 inherits much from the D3400 that preceded it, there are some differences which combine to make the D3500 a better camera overall. The redesigned body clearly borrows a lot from the upper entry-level D5600 and the enlarged handgrip helps to make the camera feel more comfortable and...

Trusted Reviews

The D3500 is a solid, well-specified entry-level DSLR that gives beginners good handling, great performance and real value for money. Canon chose to build down to a price rather than up to an expectation with this D3500 rival.

The Nikon D3500 is a very compact Digital SLR, and offers DSLR quality images, thanks to a large APS-C CMOS sensor. The 18-55mm kit lens performs reasonably well for a kit-lens. For better results, there are a number of affordable prime lenses available, such as the 50mm f/1.8 , which would make a...

Nikon D3500 : A superb budget DSLR that’s tailor-made for beginners, but it’s not a huge improvement on the D3400

Practical Photography

Nikon’s latest entry into the budget DSLR category, the D3500 is bundled with an AF-P DX 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G lens, which offers great results for a kit lens. Under the hood, you’ll find a brand new 24.2MP sensor, ISO range of 100-25,600 – perfect for low-light shooting – and nippy 5fps continuous...

Photography BLOG

The new Nikon D3500 retains the same core feature-set as its predecessor, the D3400, but presents it in a smaller, lighter and more logical design that's very reminiscent of the mid-range D5600 camera.

The D3500 represents very good value for money, particularly for beginners and those with tight budgets.

PC Magazine

The Nikon D3500 doesn't offer a lot of upgrades, but cements its value as a strong entry-level camera thanks to a lower price point.

Awesome camera for beginners and one of the best values for a dslr when you get the 2 lens kit. Perfect for those who love hiking or nature photography as this is one of the lightest dslrs on the market and the nikon dx lenses are much smaller than their full frame counterparts, making the kit...

I bought this camera early in 2020 to develop my photography from my iPhone, the D3500 seemed to be consistently reviewed as the best beginners camera. I must admit that at the beginning I was a bit disappointed with the images, I seemed to be taking better photos on my phone.

When I read the reviews of this I thought it was too good to be true, but owning this has made me a convert, perfect on auto & manual alike, great easy set up & even managed to pick up a further battery cheaply, but doesn't really need another, charges very fast, battery lasts for ages, my only wish...

Very easy to learn how to navigate and use the various menus. Great for a beginner like myself as I can take pictures very quickly and also try out the various features. I have used it twice so far taking pictures of scenery and I am impressed with the results.

I just bought last week and I’m playing about with it. The quality of the photos I have taken are amazing! it’s so easy to use, I’m enjoy taking pictures and was looking for a decent camera rather than using my phone. This camera does not disappoint!

A good beginner DSLR with excellent photo quality. the price is very cheaper than other major distributors.

Bought as my friend had got the same camera last year while starting up as a new hobby. More than convinced me to get the same as I had plenty chance to use myself. When I could afford it I immediately purchased this.

I brought this camera as a replacement and update to my old canon 400d. Its only the second camera I've owned as i have only been into photography for a year. It is a great starter camera at a reasonable price to help improve your skills.

Fab camera, very easy to use and excellent for a beginner. The Guide is really helpful for a start and the auto gives excellent photos for quick 'point and shoot'.

I brought this camera because i wanted to get into photography and heard it was really good for beginners. It definitely is a good quality camera with great features for example it has a guide to help you use the camera and get the best photos and i love that i can easily get the photos from my...

Purchased this camera for my wife for her birthday. She is thrilled with it. Nice set of features for a DSLR camera at this price point and more importantly for her not too large. Great camera.

Bought after research for which camera best for a beginner and given as a gift. Owner reports very happy with the camera and kit. Already seen much usage and they say they have found it easy to use and are exploring the features.

This was bought as a special birthday present for my teenage son. He absolutely loves it and it has got him outside even in the rain and the cold. Easy to use and takes great pictures. So far managed to see and photograph loads of different birds, four red squirrels and some wild deer. Hopefully the start of a lifelong hobby

Very pleased with the camera so far, easy to get started on with great resulting photos.
