45.7 Megapixel Back-side Illuminated CMOS Sensor

At the heart of the D850 is a back-side illuminated (BSI) FX-format full-frame CMOS image sensor with 45.7 megapixels and no optical low-pass filter. A marvel of ingenuity, it achieves extraordinary image quality, enhanced light gathering efficiency, faster data readout and truer colour with virtually no risk of moiré

EXPEED 5 Image Processing

EXPEED 5 quickly processes all 45.7 megapixels of data for lower noise, wider dynamic range, subtle tonal and textural details, high-speed continuous shooting at approx. 9 fps and full-frame 4K UHD movie recording.

Dynamic Range Down to ISO 64

The lower the ISO, the greater the dynamic range. Like the D810 before it, the D850 has the lowest base ISO of any DSLR or mirrorless camera—ISO 64 (expandable down to ISO 32).

Speed to Match Your Vision

With a continuous shooting speed of 7 fps or 9 fps using the optional MB-D18 battery pack with EN-EL 18b/a Lithium-ion Battery, the D850 can capture those perfect moments in action from a bride walking down the aisle to gravity-defying sports shots at it’s full 45.7 MP resolution.

153 Point AF System

With 153 focus points, 99 cross-type sensors and a dedicated AF processor, the D850 combines the best of flagship AF technology so that you can be assured that your high resolution images areas sharp as can be.

Full Frame 4K UHD

Record 16:9 4K Ultra HD (3840x2160) in full frame glory using the total width of the D850’s back-side illuminated CMOS sensor. Take advantage of the large sensor size for clean output at high ISO and for shooting with zero crop factor with full-frame NIKKOR lenses3, including wide and ultra-wide angle lenses.

4K and 8K Time-Lapse

Create jaw-dropping 4K time-lapse movies right in-camera or exquisitely-detailed 8K time-lapse sequences of up to 9,999 full-size stills using D850’s Interval Timer Mode.

120 fps Slow-Motion

Transform dramatic moments into dazzling fluid slow-motion sequences. Record 4x (shoot at 120p, playback at 30/25p) or 5x (shoot at 120p, playback at 24p) slow-motion at 1080p.

Versatile Sound Controls

When audio levels rise unexpectedly, D850’s sound attenuator automatically reduces the microphone sensitivity to prevent distortion and maintain smooth recording with clear sound.

Focus Peaking

Confirm your manual focus with Focus Peaking. Select high, medium or low sensitivity and red, yellow, blue or white highlights.

Tilt & Touch

The tilting touchscreen LCD makes it easy to get the shot, even from high or low angles.  Use Touch AF, Touch Shutter control and navigate menus, playback and more as if you were using a touch enabled smart device.  Zoom in during Live View shooting and use the new pinpoint AD to put focus right where you want it

Focus Stacking Made Easy

Create Images with extraordinary depth of field using Focus Shift mode.  Set focal steps from 1 to 10 for up to 300 automated shots and the D850 will automatically shift focus between shots and collect the images in a dedicated folder for easy identification when using 3d part focus stacking software.

Silent Live View

When Silence is golden – shooting golf, press conferences, weddings and more – turn on Silent Photography in Live View and capture without sound or mechanical vibration.

XQD Storage

Using optional XQD storage allows for optimum handling of D850’s incredible high resolution files and shooting speeds. SD can be used for back up, overflow or just as extra storage space.

Streamlined Workflow

Seamlessly switch between RAW sizes of Large (45.4 MP), Medium (25.6 MP) and Small (11.4 MP), whichever fits your need or workflow. Save time with RAW batch processing right in the camera.

Built-in Wireless Connectivity

Transfer images to a compatible smartphone or tablet instantly using Nikon’s SnapBridge app and the D850’s constant Bluetooth Low Energy connection.

Rugged Design & Weather Sealing

The D850 is built for extreme durability using rugged magnesium alloy and carbon fibre materials.  It also has extensive weather and dust sealing applied to its joint parts and seams, allowing you to shoot in confidence, even in the most extreme weather and environments.

200-500mm f5.6E AF-S ED VR

Powerful Zoom with fixed aperture

Powerful zoom with extended reach. With a 200–500mm focal length range and constant f/5.6 aperture, this FX-format lens introduces a new level of super-telephoto versatility.

  • Compact super telephoto zoom lens for birding, wildlife, motorsports, events and more
  • 500mm of zoom power on FX-format DSLRs; 750mm equivalent on DX-format DSLRS
  • Fast f/5.6 constant aperture for beautiful out-of-focus backgrounds and low-light performance
  • ~4.5 stops of Vibration Reduction with Sports mode
  • AF compatible with optional TC-14E series tele-converters and DSLRs that offer f/8 support

Astounding views, comfortably in reach.

Wherever your passion lies, this outstanding super telephoto zoom lens can bring it into focus. Capture and share stunning views of birds, wildlife, motorsports, athletes, performers, landmarks and other faraway subjects. A fast f/5.6 constant aperture gives your shots beautifully out-of-focus backgrounds across the entire zoom range. Turn fast-moving action into dazzling photo sequences—the electromagnetic diaphragm operates in sync for the fastest subjects and shutter speeds while Vibration Reduction image stabilization keeps your shots sharp and steady. And in the rare cases when additional reach is needed, you can increase the AF-S NIKKOR 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR's zoom power with an optional Nikon 1.4x, 1.7x or 2x tele-converter.

Lightweight, compact super telephoto zoom

Whether your subject is far in the distance or close, fast or slow, you can land the shot. On FX-format cameras, 500mm brings distant birds, wildlife, athletes, performers, landmarks and more into tight focus. DX-format cameras add an additional 1.5x zoom effect for an angle of view equivalent to a whopping 750mm! And despite that extreme power, you can also focus on subjects as close as 7.2 feet away for detail rich close-ups.

~4.5 stops of Vibration Reduction

At super telephoto distances, the smallest camera movements can cause image blur. Vibration Reduction image stabilization counteracts camera shake up to ~4.5 stops for sharp photos and steady videos. You also can shoot at slower shutter speeds in low light—great for those magic moments at dawn and dusk. Sports Mode is optimized for camera pans and other movements common when shooting fast action.

Advanced Nikon lens technology

Extra-low Dispersion (ED) glass cuts through the glare of bright sunlight. Silent Wave Motor (SWM) powers ultra-fast, near-silent autofocusing with seamless manual override. The Electromagnetic diaphragm (E) operates in sync with the fastest shutter speeds and frame rates, even when using an optional tele-converter. Always bring home views that amaze.

ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) Glass:  An optical glass developed by Nikon that is used with normal optical glass in telephoto lenses to obtain optimum correction of chromatic aberrations.

IF Lens:  A NIKKOR lens in which only the internal lens group shifts during focusing. Thus, IF NIKKORS do not change in size during AF operation, allowing for compact, lightweight lenses capable of closer focusing distances. These lenses will be designated with the abbreviation IF on the lens barrel.

Silent Wave Motor:  AF-S NIKKOR lenses feature Nikon’s Silent Wave Motor (SWM). This technology converts “traveling waves” into rotational energy to focus the optics. This enables high-speed autofocusing that's extremely accurate and super quiet.

M/A:  Select NIKKOR lenses have a focusing mode which allows switching from automatic to manual focusing with virtually no lag time by simply turning the focusing ring on the lens. This makes it possible to seamlessly switch to fine manual focusing while looking through the viewfinder.

Vibration Reduction:  A Nikon in-lens technology that improves image stability by automatically compensating for camera shake. Lenses that offer VR will feature the abbreviation VR on the lens barrel.

Super Integrated Coating:  Nikon Super Integrated Coating is Nikon's term for its multilayer coating of the optical elements in NIKKOR lenses.

Electromagnetic Diaphragm Mechanism:  An electromagnetic diaphragm mechanism in the lens barrel provides highly accurate electronic diaphragm or aperture blade control when using auto exposure during continuous shooting. With conventional D/G type lenses, the diaphragm blades are operated by mechanical linkage levers.
