Compact Travel Cameras have to tick off so many boxes that it is easy to loose out on other areas.  Fortunately, the Panasonic TZ range is not one of those.  The TZ80 is the latest in a well established and loveable range blending high quality optics and jaw dropping image quality.  The TZ80 is no exception to this rule and also adds the latest 4K technology, 10 Frames Per Second as well as being neat enough to fit in to your pocket.

The camera’s small and sturdy build means it fits easily into a pocket, and at less than 300g it won’t weigh you down on your next adventure.

This TZ model manages to pack outstanding performance and a host of practical features into its lightweight chassis. The 18M sensor is ideal for taking high quality photos in all conditions, and its 4K capability means that your favourite travel memories can be recorded in stunning detail. What’s more, the LUMIX DMC-TZ80 also features a 30x Zoom LEICA lens, so you’ll never be out of range for that perfect holiday shot.

Colour, clarity and powerful zoom

The camera incorporates an 18M high sensitivity MOS sensor, allowing you to capture even the finest details of your travels. Whether taking pictures on a sunny beach or during a candlelit dinner for two, the LUMIX DMC-TZ80’s exceptional low light performance ensures crisp, clear and natural results with minimal noise. The sensor complements a powerful Venus engine to reproduce breathtaking colour that remains accurate to the composition you saw through the lens.

The LUMIX DMC-TZ80’s outstanding optical capability is underpinned by a high-end LEICA lens with 30x Zoom (24-720mm), for performance that far outweighs its compact body. The camera allows you to get closer to the action, without disturbing the subject – perfect for pictures and videos of wildlife, or more natural shots of friends and family.

Capture those perfect moments in stunning 4K

The LUMIX DMC-TZ80’s 4K video capability enables you to record and relive all those special moments in the very highest quality. With four times the resolution of Full HD, videos reproduce the breathtaking colour and detail of every scene, an experience second only to being there in person.

The camera offers smooth, high quality video recording in 4K 3840x2160 at 25 fps in MP4, as well as high-resolution Full HD 1,920x1,080 50p videos in AVCHD.

Panasonic has also utilised 4K to help take photo accuracy to a new level. For the first time in a travel camera, Panasonic’s 4K Photo function allows you to extract an 8-megapixel still from 4K video (30fps) with amazing precision. The feature provides the perfect solution for capturing those fleeting moments, whether it’s timing the kids jumping into a pool or a dolphin breaching the waves.

Another new addition to the LUMIX TZ range is the Post-Focus feature, which allows you to select the focal point of your picture, even after it’s taken. The LUMIX DMC-TZ80’s outstanding autofocus capability calculates the distance between the camera and the subject, capturing the optimal focus for 49 individual areas within each frame. Once the photo is taken, you simply select the precise area you want to focus on – for example your family in the foreground, or the stunning scenery behind them. What’s more, with the option to export multiple photos from a single shot, you’ll never have to choose between the two.

Hone your camera skills

If you’re looking to develop your photographic skills, the LUMIX DMC-TZ80 provides extensive and easy-to-use manual settings. A dedicated Control Ring gives smooth control of settings such as zoom, aperture and shutter speed, allowing you to concentrate on lining up the prefect shot. Similarly, a 3.0-inch 1040k-dot touch screen makes navigating menus and selecting your preferred setting incredibly quick and easy, even in bright sunlight.

Share your memories

Once you’ve selected your favourite holiday snaps on the LUMIX DMC-TZ80, you can share them with friends and family with the press of a button. Simply connect to a smartphone or tablet to share your pictures on social media, attach them to an email or view remotely on a bigger screen.

The Panasonic TZ80 is a compact camera for people who want to have it all. It has a huge 30x optical zoom, but is very small and can even shoot 4K video. Its bullet-point list of features is pretty impressive. At £329, though, the Panasonic TZ80’s images don’t exactly blow us away.

Photography BLOG

Panasonic has added some interesting technology to its superzoom segment of the market, and it's interesting to see that the Lumix DMC-TZ80 now represents the more affordable of the company's duo of new travel compacts.

The Panasonic Lumix TZ80 brings 4K video and 4K photo shooting to the travel zoom market, at an excellent price point, meaning you get great "bang for buck" which should make this an excellent seller, particularly if the price drops over time, as is usually the case with digital cameras.

Lumix DMC-TZ80: A pocket sized camera packed with useful features, but the TZ80's image quality lets it down.

What Digital Camera

There’s plenty to like about the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ80. It’s a generously featured and highly flexible compact that ticks all the relevant ‘travel camera’ boxes. It also benefits from a number of key upgrades over its predecessor, especially in terms of its video-recording abilities and speedier...

The Lumix TZ80 / ZS60 is a pocket-super-zoom with a 30x optical range, 18 Megapixel sensor, 4k video, touchscreen and built-in electronic viewfinder. Sold alongside the flagship TZ100 / ZS100, the Lumix TZ80 / ZS60 effectively becomes its 'cut-down' sibling, but it is arguably the true successor to...

Easy to carry and starts up quickly I imagined that Leica would only put their name to a good lens but the lens is very soft at the outer half of the magnification range. I took a series of test shots of the same scene at all the iso settings, noise was obvious at 400 and at higher values the images...

We bought this camera as we wanted a smaller digital camera that would litterally fit in to my handbag or coat pocket. It looks great. It is very easy to use - the instruction booklet makes it sound more complicated than it actually is. With the Ai facility you can litterally point and press!

Wilkinson Cameras

I bought this for its viewfinder, zoom capability and small size relative to a DSLR. It is good but takes some getting used to as everything is so much more compact than a DSLR it's hard to find what you want in a hurry.

UK Digital

This is to replace my canon dslr camera when I go on my walks. The dslr is to large and bulky to carry about but this lumix is ideal to put in your pocket. The zoom on this camera is also outstanding with a 30x. 4K video etc etc. Too many comments to make, thus us just a great camera.

Great camera, loads of functionality. Perhaps too much to remember what does what.

Castle Cameras

I am just getting used to the camera but will be going on holiday shortly and this will be my first real test of the camera and so will be better able to give a more comprehensive review on my return.

Out in the fields with my dog, small enough to carry comfortably and fast to use.

The TZ80 is not one of those cameras where you have to keep looking in your pocket every five minutes to make sure it's still there. You'll KNOW you're carrying this! Solid body, mammoth zoom lens, big bright LCD display and a digital eyepiece (if you're that way inclined).

I sold my other tz 80 . It appears to give everything my bridge camera gives me but so much easier to carry around.

I use this camera to document my travels and particularly to photograph wildlife. The zoom capabilities are particularly useful, and in many cases save me having to carry or use my binoculars! A quick photo can be studied even after the bird has flown away!

This is an amazing little camera that does everything, and more, than anyone could realistically ask for in a camera that easily fits into the average pocket. It has an amazing zoom range, for its size, and a host of features that takes the 'Point and shoot' ability to another level, and, As you'd expect, the Leica lens is first class.
