Coupled with fast primes this TC really shines. Outstanding IQ/AF speed with my 200 f2/300 f2.8 VR's This little addition has actually saved me thousands of dollars not having to purchase a 500...love when that happens!
Nikon TC-17E AF-S TeleConverter II
- F Mount Teleconverter
- 1.7x Magnification Factor
- Communication Between Lens & Camera
- Maintains Metering, Autofocus, and VR
- Nikon Integrated Coating
- Compatible with Select F Mount Lenses
Multiply your lens' focal length by 1.7x with the Nikon AF-S Teleconverter TC-17E II for F mount lenses. This teleconverter will maintain full metering and focusing with compatible cameras and lenses, and will also support the VR function found on many current lenses. This teleconverter also has Nikon's Integrated Coating to limit flaring and ghosting that may occur.
- Many such teleconverters can also have a detrimental effect on the speed of the lens, however the AF-S Teleconverter TC-17E II makes only accounts for 1.5 stops of light loss.
- 1.7x teleconverter extends the reach of AF-S lenses by 70% with only a one-and-a-half-stop loss in exposure.
- Advanced design maintains the optical quality of NIKKOR lenses as well as fully supports exposure metering and VR image stabilization capabilities.
- Nikon F lens mount supports both FX and DX format AF-S NIKKOR lenses.
I use this with my 300mm prime to give me just that bit more, especially with wildlife - brilliant. Although the 300 is heavy and you don't notice the addition of the teleconvertor. Probably the best compromise of the Nikon Teleconvertors available [depending on your need].
Yet to find the sweet spot of the teleconverter when used with my Nikon 70-200mm 2.8. Tried many combinations of vr and not and aperture but not yet found it to be razor sharp
like a lot of photographers, I'm looking to cut down on carrying everything including the kitchen sink. this lens takes up very little space but it packs a punch. Its the first thing into the holdall. Should have bought it years ago.
Turned a superb fast 105mm Nikon Macro lens into a poor slow 180mm lens. Although there are many on-line reviews that are positive for this converter I found it produced noticeably soft images, even when stopped down, with lots of chromatic aberration over the entire image area.
Bought this for my 70-200 2.8 and so far it has been excellent! You should know that it rattles slightly until attached (because I worried there was something wrong and had to google it . . seems everyone does. . .
I tested the AF-S Nikon TC-17E II teleconverter on the new Nikon AF-S Nikkor 500mm f/5.6E PF ED VR lens and the results are remarkable. This configuration results in a maximum aperture of f/9.5, but my Nikon D500 camera body had no problem acquiring Auto Focus.
I've been using a TC-14E III to get additional reach with my 300mm f/4 PF for a couple years. With airshow season quickly approaching, I decided to give the TC-17E II a shot. There is a noticeable change in focus speed and higher frequency of hunting on my D500 when shooting wildlife.
I recently found out about an opportunity to photograph military jets in flight, but my 70-200mm f/2.8 lens wouldn't be adequate. It was suggested I use a teleconverter. So I bought this one, and I have not been disappointed.
