This addition to the company’s line up of profession-grade lenses for X-series interchangeable-lens cameras covers a wide shooting range of 27mm wide-angle to 206mm telephoto equivalent. It has the world’s most advanced 5.0-stop image stabilisation technology and features a dust-proof and waterproof structure with weather resistant sealing applied to more than 20 different areas of the lens.
Covering a wide shooting range, from 27mm wide-angle to 206mm telephoto
The new XF18-135mm lens is suited to a variety of scene types and subject matters as it covers frequently used angles of view. These include wide-angle shooting, often used for landscapes and architecture with an excellent sense of perspective (27mm equivalent); a normal angle of view that naturally captures the image as it is (35mm, 40mm, 50mm equivalent); and telephoto, which allows you to zoom right in to capture portraits and sports scenes (85mm, 135mm, 200mm equivalent) with its 7.5x zoom.
To achieve high descriptive performance with sharpness and rich contrast from the wide-angle to the telephoto, high-performance glass including 4 aspherical glass lenses and 2 ED glass lenses has been used. Multi-layer HT-EBC, which has high permeability (99.8%) and low reflectance (0.2%), is applied to the entire lens to effectively reduce lens flare and ghosting, which often occur in backlight conditions. Utilising the wide zoom range of the lens, there is more freedom in composition and selecting angles.
Fast autofocus (max. 0.1sec.), silent operation
The XF18-135mm F3.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR uses an inner focusing mechanism for rapid autofocus speeds. This was engineered by making the focus lens lighter and installing a linear motor. When this lens is combined with an X-series camera body which is compatible with phase detection AF, smooth photography is offered with faster AF.
Linear motor technology which directly drives the focus lens creates low noise for silent operation when shooting movies.
World’s most advanced 5.0-stop image stabilisation function
In order to achieve the world’s most advanced 5.0-stop image stabilisation performance, the ability to detect movement in the low-frequency band was improved, and an algorithm to accurately sense blur from the detected signal was developed. Correction performance was doubled in the low-speed shutter range. This helps to support a lightly-equipped shooting style without the use of a tripod.
The newly adopted high-precision gyro sensor is installed with quartz oscillators which detect movement from high frequency to low frequency bandwidths.
Dust-proof, weather resistant structure
A dust-proof, weatherproof structure with sealing applied to 20 different areas of the lens barrel is resistant to typical atmospheric changes that occur in a natural environment, such as sudden rain, dust, and splashes of water.
In order to improve the feel when adjusting the zoom, a ventilator has been placed on the inside of the base of the lens barrel. The structure effectively prevents dust particles and moisture from getting into the lens to ensure smooth operation.
Designed to be paired with the Fujifilm X-T1 and its dedicated vertical grip VG-XT1 which also have dust-proof and weather resistant bodies.
Light-weight and compact design for excellent portability
The XF18-135mm lens offers a wide shooting range, advanced image stabilization, and a dust-proof, waterproof structure, all in a compact structure.
When combined with the X-T1, the camera and lens weigh a mere 930g. This highly portable weather resistant kit offers much improved flexibility and wider photo opportunities to the photographer.
The adoption of 4 aspherical lenses, each of which delivers the performance of multiple general spherical lenses together, has been used to achieve the lens’ extremely short optical length. With an easily manoeuvrable size and good holding balance with the total lens length, a comfortable shooting style is promised.
It would be churlish to compare the sharpness delivered by this lens to Fujifilm's prime lenses, as they don't have as many compromises to deal with. Even so, as far as superzoom lenses go, this optic delivers sharp, contrasty images and tons of convenience, thanks to the 7.1x zoom range, optical...
With Fuji making waves with its stream of new mirrorless releases, its lenses are equally renowned. The 18-135mm offers a huge 27-206mm 35mm equivalent, with a widest aperture of f/3.5.
Fujifilm users who bought an X-T1 will doubtless be anxious to hear how well the 18-135mm performs, and whether it’s a worthy companion to the camera. The good news is that there’s no need to worry – the lens is well behaved and produces consistently good-quality images.
This 7.5x super-zoom lens for Fujifilm X-series interchangeable lens cameras provides a field of view equivalent to a 27-206mm lens on a 35mm camera, optical stabilisation and costs around £750. This lens also sports a weather resistant construction.
Some photographers don't want to have to deal with switching between prime lenses, so this lens fills that niche very nicely; however, prime lens shooters are accustomed to images which this lens can only produce in certain circumstances.
Fujifilm’s latest zoom is designed to match the much-lauded X-T1 compact system camera. Andy Westlake examines whether it lives up to expectations in our Fujifilm XF 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6R LM OIS WR review
I bought this lens as soon as I changed to the X system; it has been my standard on-camera lens most of the time. I find it produces good quality images from a very useful range - from quite wide to medium tele. It isn't too heavy and all controls work very smoothly; there is also no creep.
The 18-135mm is my travel lens of choice, great range and very good images, what’s not to like.
I bought this lens on a recommendation from a member of my photographic society and have not been disappointed. Its range covers most situations for a competent photographer as a general lens. Its WR feature is particularly good for landscape photography on the Yorkshire Moors.
I bought this as my 'walk about' single lens. With a great zoom range (27-200 35mm equivalent) and an adequate max aperture this is the lens I use on holiday or when taking photos and not wanting to carry other lenses. Very versatile. Quite good close focusing capability.
I appreciated that this isn't a top of the range lens, but I wanted something to use on my XT-2 while on holiday for a month in New Zealand, without having to keep changing lenses. It provided excellent quality images not just holiday snaps. Very pleased with it.
I was an dedicated Nikon user for over 30 years and whilst I have loved using the gear for a variety of subjects including weddings, portraits, studio, travel and landscape I did however grow to not like the weight of all my full frame gear that I carried around.
Excellent quality lens, if you could afford only one for your new Fuji - this is the one to get. I bought this and a couple of primes and it's working out perfectly.
I tend to be a user of prime lenses but needed something more general use for when I travel with the family. This lens fits the bill nicely. The lens is well built, very solid with high quality materials.
Haven't used it much yet various other compared to a couple of examination tries. Fairly sharp across the aperture and also zoom array, limited the aperture to around f4 to f16. I don't fire rapid action so the autofocus was great for me, quite quickly adequate and exact.
This is my second time buying this lens. I tried not to like it looking at all the reviews. I came to this one after selling the 16-55/2.8 which I found too heavy, and the absence of OS was noticeable. I also did not find the 18-55 sharp enough.
