A natural wide-angle view
Offering a natural perspective and a wider angle of view, the EF 35mm f/2 IS USM is a good alternative standard lens to a traditional 50mm optic when used on a full-frame DSLR. On EOS cameras with APS-C sized sensors it gives an angle of view similar to a 56mm lens.
Image stabilisation for low-light shooting
Shoot hand held in low-light conditions using shutter speeds that are up to four stops slower than usually recommended. Image Stabilizer (IS) technology detects automatically when a photographer is panning to follow moving objects and switches off stablisation in this direction.
Large f/2 maximum aperture
Shooting with apertures as wide as f/2 enables photographers to work with shallow depth of field. Enjoy a bright viewfinder image and use relatively fast shutter speeds even in dim conditions.
Advanced autofocus
Enjoy fast, near-silent autofocus thanks to a ring-type ultrasonic AF motor. Stay in control with full-time manual focus override.
Sophisticated optical design
An aspherical lens element maximises image quality while a eight-bladed aperture diaphragm delivers smooth, out-of-focus bokeh. The EF 35mm f/2 IS USM focuses down to 0.24m, letting you get close to your subjects.

The Canon EF 35mm f/2 IS USM is a capable but rather pricey wide-angle prime that will appeal most to travel and reportage photographers looking for a lightweight and responsive lens.
Once more Canon delivered a a high performance lens with only a few weaknesses. The center performance is very good at max. aperture and excellent to downright superb at medium aperture settings. The borders are somewhat low in contrast at f/2 but very sharp when stopped down a bit.
For street photography, this lens packs some useful features into a modestly sized build...
With the arrival of the Canon EF 35mm f/2 IS USM Lens, the Canon EF 24mm f/2.8 IS USM Lens and Canon EF 28mm f/2.8 IS USM Lens now have another sibling - a big brother. Even before I had a 35 f/2 IS in my hands, I felt like I already knew this lens well as it shares design with these...
If you're shooting movies and are looking at the 35mm focal length, the lens is a no-brainer; integrated image stabilization comes in very handy. If stills are more your thing, it's a noticeable improvement over the original Canon 35mm ƒ/2 USM, but whether it's worth twice the price is perhaps in...
Handling and features This wide angle prime lens from Canon sports a fast maximum aperture of f/2, an ultrasonic focus motor and image stabilisation. This lens is currently available for around £765, which seems a little steep.
The Canon EF 35mm f/2 USM IS already impressed us in our full format review and it continues to do so in the APS-C scope. The center performance is very good at max. aperture and excellent to downright superb at medium aperture settings. The borders quality is also very high.
This is a great lens. Very detailed rendition even full open, very light to carry which was exactly what I wanted after hauling around weighty zoom lens. My only criticism would be that it could do with a touch more contrast in comparison to my 24-35 f2.8.
The 35mm lens is very sharp and with f2 it is great in low light situations - if you can't afford an L lens, then go for this. It gives constant results - no flare - or colour cast, just brilliant results every time. Lightweight just right for carrying around- Perfect for taking Street photography.

Bought this lens as part of my EOS RP purchase, and I have found no issues with the lens at all. Features are what I would expect of this level of lens and usual Canon quality.
I use this lens on a 6D body. It's a great partner when used in conjunction with an OCE-3 and Canon flash as you can easily handhold the camera, freeing your other hand to hold the flash. This is the only non-L EF lens that I own and overall I'm impressed with the image quality.
