The XF56mm F1.2 R is less than half the size of an equivalent lens on a full-frame camera and offers fast, quiet autofocusing that ensures stress-free shooting for both the photographer and the model. It also delivers incredible resolving power for high quality results that are enhanced by the unique skin tone reproduction technology found in Fujifilm’s X-mount cameras. Using the XF56mm and selecting one of two PRO Negative modes from the Film Simulation menu on the camera body will ensure users can capture beautiful portraits with rich tonal gradations reminiscent of images from film cameras.

Like all other lenses in the XF line up, the XF56mm F1.2 R is designed with an impressive attention to detail. It has a design that sits comfortably in the hand and exterior features including a metal aperture ring for a premium quality feel.

Advanced optical design for professional portraits

The lens’ new optical design featuring 11 elements in 8 groups delivers impressive results. The design includes two ED (extra low-dispersion) elements and one double-sided aspherical element, plus four elements with a convex surface facing the subject, which combine to reduce spherical and chromatic aberrations. They also ensure the best possible image resolution, even when the lens is at its widest aperture of f/1.2.

Image quality is further enhanced by Fujifilm’s proprietary HT-EBC coating that’s used on all lens surfaces to reduce ghosting and flare, while the seven-blade rounded diaphragm produces the creamy smooth bokeh effect that’s become synonymous with XF series lenses.

Attach the XF56mm F1.2 lens to a body that supports the Lens Modulation Optimiser and picture quality leaps even higher thanks to the automatic correction of diffraction when shooting at smaller apertures.

Fast autofocus, silent operation

The XF56mm F1.2 R combines an inner focus mechanism and a DC coreless motor for rapid autofocusing speeds, which are boosted further when used with a X-series camera body that supports phase detection AF. The structure and positioning of the focusing unit reduces sound and vibration for silent operation and with no lens barrel movement during focusing, the structure effectively prevents dust particles from getting into the lens and degrading picture quality.

Premium build quality

In keeping with the XF lens legacy, the 56mm F1.2 R features a durable, metal construction - including the aperture and focusing rings - to ensure a high quality feel. The aperture ring is designed to ensure it’s easy to detect ‘clicks’ between f-stops, while the focusing ring is both comfortable in use and has the perfect amount of torque so it’s simple to focus precisely.

The Fujifilm XF 56mm F1.2 R is a superb addition to the X-series range, offering a classic portraiture focal length and an ultra-fast aperture that produces simply beautiful background bokeh with a minimum of fuss.

ePHOTOzine

This lens is a fine addition to the X-series lens line up. It is incredibly sharp, whether you're shooting with the aperture wide open, or not. The APD filter, which sets this lens apart from the standard 56mm f/1.2 is a really interesting addition, which truly helps to improve the appearance of out...

Practical Photography

Fujifilm has two 56mm lenses for their X Series cameras, and although the APD is near identical in spec, it’s hiding a secret its rivals can’t compete with... APD stands for apodization filter, an inclusion that makes the bokeh smoother than a regular lens.

LensTip.com

It is true that the Fujinon XF 56 mm f/1.2 R has many advantages – after all not every lens manages to break resolution records like it does. On the other hand the cons list consists of as many as four positions; taking into account the price of the 1.2/56 model it might be considered a bit...

This lens is a fine addition to the X-series lens line up. It is incredibly sharp when stopped down, and performs well wide open too. The build and handling are also of the same high standard we've come to expect from Fujifilm.

Practical Photography

Fujinon is the optics branch of Fujifilm, and as such is producing some exceptional glass to accompany its CSCs.

PhotoReview

The smooth bokeh produced by the XF 56mm f/1.2 R APD lens will attract photographers interested in portraiture.

PC Magazine

The Fujifilm Fujinon XF 56mm F1.2 R has more light-gathering capability than any lens in the Fuji mirrorless system, and captures images with crisp details.

Photography Life

This is an in-depth review of the Fujifilm XF 56mm f/1.2 R lens made for Fuji's line of X-Series cameras. This short telephoto lens (85mm full-frame equivalent) was released in February of 2014 and quickly became known as one of the best prime portrait lenses on the market, mirrorless or…

Photodo

This telephoto lens for the Fujifilm X-series interchangeable lens cameras, may seem familiar, as it's virtually the same as the current 56mm f/1.2 , which provides a field of view equivalent to an 84mm lens on a 35mm camera, sports a very bright f/1.2 maximum aperture and costs around £750.

I knew this would be a great lens for portraits, but I also wanted something telephoto for general work (landscape, travel type pictures). The lens focuses quickly (not as fast as the Fuji 16/1.4 but quicker than the Fuji 35/1.4) and is sharp even wide open.

WEX

This is one of the classic Fuji lenses. When I first looked at Fuji, a lot of the pictures were taken with this lens or the 35/1.4. Fast forward to now and I finally manage to get one and I am so pleased that I have - I use it for some portrait work (which is its main purpose) but also for general...

Wilkinson Cameras

Very nice high quality lens capable of producing wonderful images. It's early days for me, but it is proving to be razor sharp at f1.2 which is astonishing. The snap attached was taken while out walking yesterday evening in crummy light and apart from lifting the shadows is pretty much straight out...

Castle Cameras

I concur with most of the online reviews that this is a superb lens. What it lacks in weather resistance it makes up for with fantastic rendering and bokeh. Beautiful portrait lens. It is often compared to the 50 f2 which is also a superb lens but used for a different purpose.

LensTip.com

Has to be one of the best lenses of any manufacturer on the market, it oozes quality and the results are stunning

A joy to work with - and you will be satisfied with the results. Absolute must for any Fujifilm-X owner!

The image quality is fantastic as others have said, but I find that the autofocus chatters a bit and there is a lag with the X-T1 body. When it locks on, it is great, but it does take a little while to get there. Not at all as immediate as the 50mm 1.2 on a Canon body I'm afraid
