Fall in love with the all-around capabilities of the AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G. A must have for any DX-format DSLR shooter, this compact, lightweight prime lens will help you get great images at any skill level. The 35mm focal length is ideal for a classic “natural” angle of view. With a fast f/1.8 aperture, you can focus sharply on your subjects in low light and create beautifully blurred backgrounds.

Beautiful background blur

The secret to creating beautifully blurred backgrounds in your photos and videos is using a lens with a wide maximum aperture. The AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G’s maximum aperture is f/1.8, which provides complete depth-of-field control for isolating your subject and creating stunning portraits.

Outstanding low-light performance

An f/1.8 maximum aperture isn’t just for creating blurred backgrounds—it’s also the key to exceptional low-light performance. With the AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G, you’ll be able to shoot in more situations with only the available light—indoors or out, from morning until night.

Environmentally Friendly

The AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G consistently delivers great shots. For DX DSLR owners, the natural perspective provides enough angle to capture the subject along with part of the environment.

Stand out from the pack

The AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G when shot at f/1.8 produces beautifully soft background blur which in turn makes the subject stand out.

Silent Wave Motor

AF-S NIKKOR lenses feature Nikon’s Silent Wave Motor, which represents a significant advance in AF lens technology.

AS

AS stands for Aspherical lens elements. This type of lens utilizes non-spherical surfaces on either one or both sides of the glass in order to eliminate certain types of lens aberration.

M/A

Select NIKKOR lenses have a focusing mode which allows switching from automatic to manual focusing with virtually no lag time by simply turning the focusing ring on the lens.

Rear Focusing

A system in which only the rear lens group moves during focusing, thus eliminating changes in the physical length of the lens during focusing and enabling faster focusing. Such lenses are designated with RF on the lens barrel.

Some buyers will treasure the extra f-stop of lens speed and the additional selective-focusing opportunities that the wider aperture brings. The chances are, therefore, that anybody who can live with the DX-format restriction and who won’t need a macro capability is likely to be highly delighted by...

Looking at the list of pros and cons we can see that the latter are quite a number. Does it mean that Nikkor 1.8/35 DX is a hardly successful product? Definitely not. Most of all we need to remember that it’s a really cheap instrument addressed to amateur photographers.

Photography BLOG

The Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm f1.8G is a good, fast yet inexpensive 'normal prime' for Nikon DX cameras. Its angle of view is some 2-3 degrees tighter than that of a common 50mm lens mounted to an FX or film body, but that is not a major deviation, and those who liked to use a 'nifty-fifty' on their...

With a price of around £170, this lens is a bit of a bargain for DX users looking for a compact high quality lens for low light shooting, or to isolate a subject by exploiting shallow depth of field.

PC Magazine

The Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G lens is bright and sharp, and worth adding to your DX Nikon SLR kit.

This is a very useful lens with its brightness and optical quality. The 35mm is much more useful on Dx format than the 50mm according to my liking. Highly recommended !See in more detail at:http://oldshutterhand.com/equipment-reviews/nikon-35-1-8/http://oldshutterhand.com/nikon-lenses/

DP Review

The AF-S Nikkor 35mm F1.8G DX is a lens which certainly caused a degree of dismay on its release, with many Nikon fans disappointed by the decision to make it compatible with the DX format only.

Photodo

This brand new compact wide angle lens from Nikon costs around £470 and sports a bright f/1.8 maximum aperture and silent, internal focusing with full time manual focus override. Is it good enough to be considered as a cheaper alternative to Nikon's highly regarded 35mm f/1.4G lens?

Layers Magazine

If you’re a Nikon shooter and you’ve been contemplating buying a reasonably priced, professional prime lens, you should give serious consideration to the new NIKKOR AF-S DX 35mm f/1.8G. What makes this lens so special?

Great lens. I bought a camera kit that came with a jack of all trades lens, This is a master of quite a few . I favour a lot of close up wide aperature stuff and this is fab. Also small enough and with some versatility, it makes a great happy snapper lens.

I\'ve tried a few copies and this lens can\'t convince me. I\'m using a AF-p 18-55 now over a year, which is sharper. AF speed is much faster en tag on always. I tried this lens as a low light indoor but the combination 18-55 + bounce flash still is better.

Wex Photo Video

Being both new to photography and working within a tight budget, I bought this prime lens for use with my D3500. Absolutely love the results of my initial portrait photography. It works really well in low light.

The title says it all. This is a truly superb lens. Extremely sharp and very fast focusing throughout. I was going to go for the cheaper 35mm in the Nikkor range, but opted to spend the extra for this one instead and am I glad I did. This is already my number one lens for everyday general use.

Very pleased with this lens. I never used to get on with wide angle lenses but I've been retrained by phone cameras. I didn't want as wide as a 28 and this 35mm is sharp, focuses very quickly and is versatile.

I am new to photography, and was researching a lot to buy my first DSLR. Went with the Nikon D3500 as a good entry-level camera. Naturally before buying and whilst doing all of my research, I also looked at different lenses, as I’d been using my Dad’s 5100 with the kit lens and the images just...

There aren't many prime lenses for Nikon's DX series - and this one replicates the old "standard" lens that came with old film SLR's. It's much lighter than a zoom, and has an aperture of f1.8, so lots of light. Absolutely thrilled with it on my ageing D200 - sharp as a tack, easy to use.

Love this lens. One for every DX user. It’s a fantastic lens - incredibly sharp, bokeh is incredibly smooth, and actually makes me want to completely convert to primes. I use primarily for panoramas and have taken some self portraits with it - it’s great.

Like all Nikon products, this lens is robust with a high build quality and great value for money. The lens is easy to use with excellent image quality...a worthwhile purchase.

I wanted this lens because of its features. It was ideal for the task I was undertaking, which was night time shooting. It proved to be quite adequate for the job.

It's a tad soft wide open and I'm not a fan of the lack of a hard stop on the focus ring, but these are insignificant when the rest of the lens is considered. Autofocus is fast and I'm really reaping the benefits of a fast lens.

A really good prime lens, at a very reasonable cost. Have been very happy with the results when on my Nikon D5500.
