The 15mm is a premium product, and Panasonic has gone out of its way to differentiate it from its existing 14mm f/2.5 pancake lens. The aperture is, of course, faster by a little more than a stop, and can be controlled using a physical ring towards the front of the barrel.

The LEICA DG SUMMILUX 15mm f1.7 ASPH. allows photographers to capture supreme daily life pictures with beautiful bokeh. Exceptional optical performance is assured with certification granted from the world-renowned LEICA.
The new lens system comprising of 9 elements in 7 groups uses 3 aspherical lenses. The aspherical lenses suppress spherical aberration and distortion effectively while enabling the lens unit to be made smaller.
Panasonic's Nano Surface Coating technology is adopted to minimize the reflection at entire visual light range (380nm-780nm) resulting in the super clear picture quality by avoiding ghost and flare.
The lens incorporates a superior inner focus system, which enables excellent resolution and contrast from close-up to infinity. The inclusion of a newly developed stepping motor makes the focusing action smooth, silent and quicker for use in both photo and video recording.
Notably the performance of AF is by far superior to the phase-difference AF when fast lenses with a smaller F value are used. It is also compatible with the sensor drive at max.240 fps to take maximum advantage of the high-speed AF of LUMIX G cameras.
The LEICA DG SUMMILUX 15mm f1.7 ASPH. comes equipped with aperture ring and AF/MF switch for direct, intuitive operation. Furthermore, the robust metal design of LEICA DG SUMMILUX 15mm f1.7 ASPH., including the hood, is highly reliable and durable for repeated exchange of the lens.
There is just one really sharp lens among the Micro 4/3 14-20 mm lenses: the Voigtlander 0.95/17.5. Still it has one serious flaw – its price. Additionally not everyone gladly accepts the lack of autofocus.
The Leica name is like a seal of quality for Panasonic's Micro Four thirds lenses, and this lens lives up to the reputation in many ways. One surprising way that it doesn't is with the price.
I’ve really enjoyed shooting with the Summilux 15mm f/1.7, and found it to be an accomplished performer in day-to-day shooting. It autofocuses with lightning speed and unerring accuracy, and produces attractive images shot after shot.
This new wide angle prime lens for Micro Four thirds system cameras sports a fast f/1.7 maximum aperture, Nano Surface anti-reflective coatings, a manual aperture ring and a switch for directly changing between manual and autofocus modes without halving to delve into the camera's menu.
I fully agree to Lenstips\' statements concerning image resolution. The Leica 15 F1.7 is a solid device rather than an exciting one. Central sharpness is average, but evenness of sharpness is excellent.
For those who\'d like a sniff of what the FF Leica Q, with fixed 28mm f/2 Summilux, is capable of - this bucket list poor Pana-Leica cousin trumps Olympus alternatives c/o its aperture ring, if not its performance.
The lens is very sharp and the autofocus is really fast, faster than the Olympus 17 f1.8 which was already relly fast, probably due to the fact that this lens supports the DfD autofocus on my Panasonic GX80/GX85. I also like for what I typically photograph (travel, cities, ...
This lens is flawless. In addition to its quality, it's refreshing to be able to set the aperture on the lens out ring. Another nice detail is the AF-MF switch. In the few occasion when you want to use manual focus, it's easy to do it with this lens This lens became my main lens, it's very good for...
I have owned this lens for a year or two. In the absence of direct sunlight it performs very well, A nice balance of center to edge sharpness. The shadows come out with good resolution.
I use this lens on a GX80 camera and much prefer it to my other Lumix 14-140 lens. This lens reminds me of shooting analogue medium format and 35mm where I only have prime lenses... it is well made and has a lovely weight to it.
i tried a lot of m43 lens and for me this is the best one : small, good built, sharp, color, contrast. theres a little bit of Leica in the image it produce. the only thing i miss is the aperture ring that i cant use on my Oly body.
I need a fast semi-wide for dark event work. Ive tried three versions of the Oly 17 1.8, and all have been pretty bad wide open and not that great stopped down. 20mm is not wide enough, I dont want the cost or weight of the 17 1.2, and the 12mm is too wide.
A lovely lens which produces great photos. I particularly like the avbility to control aperture from the lens (sadly only with Panasonic, not Olympus, but that's a minor thing) and the easy manual override of focus
