The Samyang 8mm F2.8 UMC Fisheye Lens is a high quality ultra wide angle lens.

It gives an immense field of view - 180 degrees, with a 12mm (35mm equivalent) field of view.

The optical construction of the lens is 11 elements in 8 optical groups including 2 aspherical and 3 ED elements for optimum optical performance. The aperture consists of six diaphragm blades with apertures available from F2.8 to F22. The Samyang 8mm fisheye features the latest generation multilayer anti-reflection ultra multi-coating (UMC) to minimise flare and ghosting. The integrated lens hood also helps to reduce flare from behind the lens.

Due to the very large depth of field produced by such a small focal length lens, focus can be easily achieved by simply setting the approximate distance on the lens scale. As with all manual focus lenses for critical or in very close focus situations you can use Live-View to fine-tune the focus manually. The Samyang 8mm F2.8 fish-eye lens is also capable of producing panoramas and 360 virtual tours, including full 360 degree images.

Fisheye lenses are also popular for special effects use where distortion, exaggerated perspective, or extreme depth of field are desired.

The tested lens fares a bit worse than the Samyang 7.5 mm f/3.5 UMC Fish-eye MFT for mirrorless cameras with a Micro 4/3 sensor, so praised by us. The difference is especially noticeable when you compare the results in vignetting and work against bright light.

The exceptionally low price of £270 for the performance this lens delivers makes this lens a simple choice for those in the market for a fisheye lens for their Sony NEX, or Samsung NX cameras.

This is a new departure for me as I'm more used to telephoto lenses. It is manual only and that's fine with me but of course, tried to use it without reading the instructions! Dumb I know and it was a simple thing that I needed to change in my camera settings (Fuijfilm - change to shoot without a...

Though manual, this lens continues to impress me in situations where I need to go as wide as possible. I have the Fujinon XF10-24 f/4, and yet this Samyang fisheye is a go-to lens for those special occasions where you need to get all of the scene into the frame. Sharp, tiny and well built.

B&H Photo

Having only shot with this lens once for an assignment, it's early to tell about its long term life, but the build is solid, the images were nice, even shooting in a low light situation. Focus ring smooth and tampered well in that it wasn't on the fly. Not an overly heavy lens or big.

I got this to round out the lenses I needed to go with my new Fuji X-T1 system. I already had the Canon 15mm fisheye, but like many others, have decided to move from my Canon 5D MK3 system and my Nikon D800 system, in favor of the smaller Fuji X series.

B&H Photo

Very interesting lens, easy to use. It allows to get a unique perspective on subjects. When used horizontally on landscapes, it is like a ultra-wide angle lens. Different styles are possible to get with it. Very sharp lens. Very good feeling in hand.

Nice lense, well built. Pictures are crisp. I recommanded it. I'm using it with a Fujifilm X-T1

LensTip.com

Recommended. Anything better will cost an awful lot more.

B&H Photo

I like going wide and this lens will do just that. Yes, there is fisheye distortion, but if used judiciously it is lots of fun.

B&H Photo

Its a really nice lens for the price you pay. Can be out of focus sometimes, but because of the 8mm it wont be seen much

Focusing ring doesn,t move have to be returned

Brilliant lens. Well made and compact. Very sharp across the frame even into the corners. Just as good a a Fuji lens. Produces nice curvature at the edges of the frame but still a full frame image, not a circular image. Works well on my XE1 but must remember to switch to manual focusing. Extreme depth of field makes the Fuji manual focus assist difficult. Need to open the aperture fully to focus accurately. Can't wait to try it from the top of a mountain somewhere!
