The RX100 V remains one of the best small-sized compact cameras on the market. Only the lack of a touch-sensitive screen, poor battery life, and that extremely high asking price see it fall short of perfection.

Product Details
Staggering performance in a 1.0-type sensor compact
Meet the RX100 V — the ultimate compact for capturing movies and stills in captivating detail. This camera inherits the RX100 series’ renowned 1.0-type image sensor, and advances with blazing-fast 0.05-second autofocus, 315 focal-plane phase-detection AF points, continuous shooting up to 24 fps with AF/ AE tracking, as well as outstanding 4K movie capabilities.
Super-fast 0.05-sec autofocus speed
The improved autofocus is the result of a cutting-edge AF system that combines super-fast 0.05-second AF speed and wide, dense AF coverage employing 315 phase-detection AF points.
Wide 315-AF-point coverage keeps action in focus
Autofocus achieved in just 0.05 seconds
Shoot continuously at up to 24fps with AF/AE tracking precision
Smooth subject tracking with reduced blackout
Capture 20.1 MP images, at up to 24fps, continuously for up to 233 shots, and with full AF/AE tracking for each. With reduced blackout itʼs also easier to follow moving subjects on both the LCD screen or viewfinder.
The more quiet, the more candid
Switch to electronic shutter and deactivate sound to get close to and shoot pets and other subjects silently, even using continuous shooting modes.
The drive behind advanced AF and continuous shooting
Exmor RS™ CMOS sensor, BIONZ X™ and front-end LSI
The 20.1 effective megapixels Exmor RS CMOS image sensor featuring focal-plane phase-detection AF sensor, the advanced high-speed BIONZ X image processing engine and the front-end LSI that supports image processing are efficiently controlled. Together, they achieve 0.05-sec. AF response, high-speed continuous shooting with AF/AE tracking at up to approx. 24fps, higher perceived resolution and low noise levels as well as more accurate face and eye detection.
Outstanding image quality and continuous shooting
You needn’t compromise image quality for shooting speed. The RX100 V can capture high-resolution images of over 20 MP as quickly as 24fps, thanks to enhanced image processing capacity and response.
Sharper focus with Fast Hybrid AF
The Fast Hybrid AF system, and wide autofocus coverage, allow fast focusing speeds and high tracking accuracy to capture sharp images even when shooting 4K movies.
Making the most of 4K recordings
The RX100V captures 4K movies using a full sensor readout, without the pixel binning common on other cameras. By condensing around 1.7x the image data into each 4K frame, fine details are rendered precisely with less moire and other image artefacts.
Make epic action last even longer
Extended super slow motion at up to 960fps
The RX100 V can record movies for super slow motion at up to 960fps (40x the normal frame rate). With twice the recording time of its predecessor, you can capture even more action, to express almost any activity more memorably.
Inheriting more versatile control
The RX100 V inherits the brilliant retractable OLED electronic viewfinder with anti-reflective ZEISS® T* Coating, multi-function control ring/custom buttons and 180-degree tiltable LCD screen that distinguish its predecessor.

The Sony Cyber-shot RX100 Mark V offers the highest specifications available in any digital camera, with a 20 megapixel 1inch BSI CMOS sensor, 315PDAF points, 24fps continuous shooting at full-resolution with continuous AF, 4K video recording, and high-speed video recording.
It might look exactly the same as its 10-month-old predecessor, but the new Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 V is a much faster and more precise camera under the hood. The innovative CMOS sensor with a DRAM chip allows the RX100 V to shoot at speeds previously unheard of on any camera, never mind a humble...
A small improvement over the RX100 IV, but Sony’s getting ever closer to the perfect premium point-and-shoot
: A technical triumph, The Sony RX100 V is the ultimate compact camera for those who can afford it.
The lifecycle of different cameras varies considerably, and while it’s not uncommon to wait as long as four years for some DSLRs to be superseded by the next model, the waiting time in a compact series is usually much shorter.
Bristling with high-end features that are matched by impressive performance, the RX100 V is a great premium compact that's only let down by some frustrating handling quirks.
The Sony RX100 V builds on a camera that was already class-leading in many respects and crams 24fps burst shooting, oversampled 4K video and a 315-point autofocus system into this new pocket-sized companion.
The Sony Cyber-shot RX100 V is a very compact and stylish camera with loads of power “under the hood.” It features a 13.2x8.8mm (aka 1-inch type) sensor with an image resolution of 20 megapixels.
Sony's RX100 Mark V is the company's most powerful premium compact to date. Like the previous two generations in the series it packs a 1in / 20 Megapixel sensor, built-in viewfinder, 24-70mm f1.8-2.8 zoom, tilting screen and decent Wifi / NFC wireless control (so long as you update the in-camera...
I bought this camera a few weeks ago after reading some reviews of its capabilities. Often reviews can sometimes be a bit over enthusiastic either in praise or criticism. I have found that far from exaggerating the cameras capabilities the reviews were spot on.
I already have the Sony A6000, and a Sony A7iiiâ¦â¦â¦but in certain situations I wanted to travel light. I already had a little compact from another manufacturer, it was getting a little old and dare I say 'well used' and so I decided on the RX1005A.
Took advice from a close friend who owns a Mk III and recommended it over the Panasonic equivalent based on the fast lens. Glad I listened to him. Very well made - feels like a high end piece of equipment .Exceptional image quality, especially in low light - flash is hardly needed.
2 years ago I bought a Panasonic compact camera with a view for using it for street photography and spontaneous photos. The camera gave very poor-quality photos. I have a friend who has a Sony RX100 (first version) and he highly recommended it.
I bought this camera around 4 weeks ago and it's not left my person. I needed something alittle smaller than my Sony A7r when out and about and as a wheelchair user this camera ticks every box for me. It has fantastic focus speed and great Zeiss fast lens so ISO can be nice and low.
Hunted around for a more pocketable companion to my Micro 4/3 Olympus interchangeable camera. The RX100 fitted the bill and the reviews (mostly from 2018 when it came out) supported the high quality well focussed pictures I'm getting.
Bought for street photography, small and light but let down by poor battery life. Small sensor limits image quality.
Bought for street photography, small and light but let down by poor battery life. Small sensor limits image quality.
As expected from SONY, a high quality, well featured camera that is extremely convenient and can produce some brilliant images. Over 60 years, I have owned all sorts of point-and-shoot to high-end cameras and it is impossible to find a perfect balance in one camera between ease of portability and...
