The F1.4 maximum aperture delivers high image quality in low-light conditions and bokeh-rich macro photography with the minimum working distance of 15cm. Featuring high-speed autofocus, a weather- and dust-resistant structure that can work in temperatures as low as -10°C, and great portability thanks to its compact size, the shooting possibilities are further expanded.

The FUJINON fast aperture lens quintet is now complete. The XF16mmF1.4 R WR is the latest addition to the popular XF23mmF1.4 R, XF35mmF1.4R, XF56mmF1.2 R, and XF56mmF1.2 R APD lens.

13 elements in 11 groups and Nano GI Coating for high image quality

The optical design includes two aspherical elements and two ED (extra low-dispersion) elements, which reduce spherical and chromatic aberrations to deliver sharp, rich image quality even at the widest aperture of F1.4. The image quality is further enhanced by Fujifilm’s proprietary HT-EBC coating applied to the all lens surfaces and Nano GI Coating on the rear surface of G1 lens. This alters the refractive index between glass and air, to reduce ghosting and flare from diagonal incident light.

Minimum working distance of 15cm

By getting closer to a subject the bokeh is enhanced and perspective is more dynamic, which gives the wide-angle photographer greater creativity. Use the XF16mm F1.4 R WR to photograph a plate of food with the restaurant in the background, for example, or a water droplet on a plant with forest in the background and both the subject and its surroundings can be captured at the same time. High image quality is achieved throughout the focus range by correcting various aberrations, even at minimum working distance of 15cm, and a Floating Focus System driven by two focus groups that work in conjunction with each other according to the working distance.

High-speed autofocus as fast as 0.11sec

A Rear Focusing System is used for high-speed autofocus. Autofocus, as fast as 0.11sec is achieved by a built-in high-torque DC coreless motor driving the focus unit. This makes the lens ideal for street shooting and portraiture.

Focus ring with depth-of-field scale,

The focus ring comes with a depth-of-field scale, which is perfect for street photographers. By calculating the distance and adjusting the aperture setting, users can shoot spontaneously.

Weather, Dust, and Freeze Resistance

The weather-resistant structure features 9 seals in 8 areas on the lens barrel. These keep the lens protected from sudden rain, dust and splashes of water. And the XF16mmF1.4 R WR features a design that absorbs the temperature difference between the outer and inner parts of the lens to minimize the impact on optical parts and also uses electronic parts that guarantee operation in low temperatures down to -10℃.

Lightweight and compact

At approx. 375g the lens is around 40% of the weight of its DSLR equivalent. This is great news for all photographers who want a versatile lens that delivers the highest optical performance in a very compact size.

When it comes to sharpness and optics, Fujifilm’s Fujinon lenses are right up there, and this f/1.4 wide-angle is no exception. At f/1.4 it’s ideal for astro, while the 35mm equivalent 24mm is great for landscapes, but can also be used for interiors or environmental portraits if that’s your thing.

Photography BLOG

The Fujifilm XF 16mm F1.4 R WR opffers a winning combination of an effective 24mm focal length, ultra-fast f/1.4 aperture, nine rounded aperture blades for surprisingly good bokeh, and a close focusing distance of 15cm, making it well-suited to both street and reportage photography as well as land-...

Still despite those shortcomings the Fujinon XF 16 mm f/1.4 R WR should be assessed positively. It provides useful images already from the maximum relative aperture, gives you a high resolution level on stopping down and it corrects geometric deformations noticeably better than its rivals; what’s...

Amateur Photographer

Since the launch of Micro Four Thirds by Olympus and Panasonic in 2008, every other major camera manufacturer has come up with its own mirrorless camera system. With this proliferation of new mounts for compact system cameras, though, comes a need for new lens ranges to match.

This lens is certainly capable of delivering excellent quality images. When you consider the robust build, weather resistant construction and excellent handling of this lens, the £730 price seems very reasonable indeed.

If you don't mind spending the money, the Fujifilm Fujinon XF 16mm F1.4 R WR lens will wow you with its f/1.4 design and wide-angle field of view.

The Fujinon XF 16mm f/1.4 R WR may not knock your socks off like the XF 90mm f/2 R LM WR but it is a capable performer nonetheless. The center quality is just fine at f/1.4 whereas the corners show some softness - emphasized by field curvature.

Imaging Resource

Fuji users are well-served with prime lenses, with focal lengths available from 14mm to 90mm. The 16mm is an excellent example and is well worth the money, especially for those shooting in low-light thanks to that fast f/1.4 aperture.

I have had my 16/1.4 for just over a year now and it has barely left my camera. It is a super versatile lens that works really well close up and for more distant scenes. When using this lens close up, you can get a lot of background, which can make for some pretty unique pictures.

I can't stress how good this lens is. When I brought it I was concerned that it had been hyped up however it is fantastic at its job. you can use it for landscape, unusual portraiture, macro (great with the extention rings) and with the f1.4 aperture, low light photography last year I used it for...

While the pros and cons sides look nearly even on paper, this lens is absolutely stellar in use. It\'s deadly sharp from f/2.8 all the way through till diffraction; the only need to stop down is to extend depth-of-field.

There is a reason this lens is called the Mighty 16. It may be big for a Fujifilm prime lens, especially compared to the f2 lineup, but its quality is astounding. F1.4 on a wide angle lens can produce some really interesting effects, and to top this all off, this lens also has near macro...

This is a fun lens to use. Its close focussing ability together with its wide aperture gives it far more creative potential than other wide angle lenses I have used. Together with beautiful rendering, this makes it one of my favourite walk-around lenses.

I've owned the "big" 14, 16, 23, 35 & 56 as well as the 27mm pancake and the 23mm f2, and this lens is by far my absolute most favourite thing in the whole world. Just buy it. Now. I love landscape work, but this focal length is perfect for almost anything except portrait.

Pros: Image quality, ridiculous minimum close up distance meaning you can really separate the minutest foreground object against beautiful bokeh background. Wide enough to get lots in frame. It's built really well, feels very robust. The pull down manual focus chuck is quick and easy to use.

For me best wide Fuji lens

Fast F1.4 lens. Great in low light. Minimum focus distance allows you to get in close. Gives good blurry backgrounds wide open. Plenty wide enough for most situations. I chose this over the 14mm as the 16mm delivers less distortion and extra F stops. I prefer having the traditional aperture ring as featured on this lens (a personal preference). I haven't yet used the clutch mechanism to slip into manual focus mode, but it may come in handy one day. Lens feels well made, solid but not over-sized. I cannot think of anything I dislike about this excellent lens.
