Scanner itself is good. Very difficult to install the software (I'm reasonably technical) and make it recognise the scanner. Software documentation seems poor. However, the software is powerful and the results are good (after some playing around), the dust/scratch removal in particular is great, and...

The Silverfast software that comes with the scanner has an issue. It would not detect the scanner driver and reported the scanner driver was incorrectly installed (but the scanner driver reported it was correctly installed).

Good quality scanner if you are using film or have old film still to scan in. However, it is a quality item - not for batch scanning, where a flatbed scanner will give you much better speed against lower quality.

Replaced two excellent quality but old (expensive!) pro neg scanners from Nikon, due to outdated scuzzi connections. Needed USB connection to mac, and press standard scans from 35mm negs, and was pleasantly surprised at ease of set up and final results.

Another excellent product.

I have 40 years' worth of irreplaceable colour slide and b/w negative images but had to dispose of projector and enlarger a while back. The original media will inevitably deteriorate through age or environmental factors, making action now essential if much careful work and many travel memories were...

Not impressed with this scanner at all. An absolute pain to work with. Silverfast Software consistently crashes. When it does work its not intuitive at all and neg scans are inferior quality compared to original and scans of properly exposed slides, bright and sharp, come out dark and soft.

B&H Photo

This scanner works very well! After some experimentation and practice, I am getting excellent results from Kodachrome slides. My results from 35mm negatives arent quite as good, showing less detail and more grain, but they are still better than what Ive gotten from film-capable flatbed scanners.

Others have said the same thing: Silverfast is not easy to use. Ive had it crash after only a few scans (and that was after updating to their newest version). When it works, it works well, especially the IR dust/scratch removal.

OS: Win 7 Slides/35mm negatives scanned: 600 The Plustek 8200i Ai includes stand-alone software which only outputs a file at specified bit density, size, and format with limited contrast/brightness/gamma corrections, but performs no other tasks.
