With its first launch of the M.Zuiko Digital 45 mm f/1.8 model Olympus really created a stir on the market of mirrorless lenses, offering an excellent device for a sensible price. Panasonic’s task to beat that was really difficult but they managed to perform admirably well.

Practical Photography

Verdict: This lens is very lightweight making it easily portable. It doesn’t feel like the most robust build and does have a little vignetting but it’s very reasonably priced. It’s great for portraits and will provide quick, accurate results.

Photography BLOG

The Panasonic LUMIX G 42.5mm f/1.7 ASPH. POWER O.I.S. is a very good portrait prime lens, offering a fast maximum aperture with effective image stabilisation in a tiny yet solidly-built package.

Practical Photography

This compact Micro Four Thirds lens from Panasonic, which weighs only 130g, offers a 35mm equivalent of 85mm, and a wide f/1.7 aperture, making it ideal for close-up portraits.

PhotoReview

Panasonic’s Lumix G 42.5mm f/1.7 ASPH./POWER O.I.S. lens is a strong performer that delivers sharp images across most of its aperture range. Edge-to-edge sharpness of frames is very good for such a fast lens and other potential aberrations are either negligible or very well controlled.

Imaging Resource

With super sharp results, a small package and a low price point, what more can you want? For portrait shooters in the Micro Four Thirds mount, this is an excellent lens.

"I echo Zen's review. I traded in my Olympus 45mm f:1.8 for this lens, because the latter doesn't have image stabilization in the lens (I use Panasonic Lumix G and only the GX models have body stabilization, unlike the Olympus MFT bodies all of which have body stabilization), and also because one of...

This is my favorite MFT lens, small, light, fast and sharp. I use it for portraits with really nice results. I also use it for micro shots of flowers and similar, although it is not really a macro lens. Highly recommended!

Imaging Resource

Excellent image quality. Very fast aperture. Ultra fast and accurate AF performance with no focal plane issues. Very very nice focus ring. Little to no distortion/CA fringeing. I love the look of glass from the front when wide open. Very small lens and light weight.

LensTip.com

This was one of my favorite lenses in micro 4/3. It\'s light, fast, has very good sharpness across the frame and nice colors. Bokeh looks good, a bit less smooth than with the 45mm f/1,8 but not a big deal. The lens focuses down closer than the competition.

B&H Photo

Ive used this lens for a couple of documentary interviews. Its the perfect focal length for head and shoulders, and the relatively fast aperture provides a nice bokeh to keep viewers focused on the subject, not the background.

Great lens, perfect for portraits and good in low light
