To make video shooting even easier, the camera also features Canon’s propriety Dual Pixel CMOS AF, even when shooting 4K to help ensure sharp focus and subject tracking.

Following the groundbreaking video recording capabilities introduced in the EOS 5D Mark II and EOS 5D Mark III, the EOS 5D Mark IV takes the next leap forward offering DCI 4K video recording. Adding to the versatility of capturing 4K video, is Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF. This proven autofocus system allows for continuous focus tracking of subjects, and can be customized by the user for optimal performance. Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology not only enhances 4K video recording, but also helps create crisp focus for 4K Frame Grab extraction of 8.8 megapixel still JPEG images, all done in camera.

The devil’s in the detail

The EOS 5D Mark IV features Canon’s brand new full frame 30.4 megapixel CMOS sensor, delivering images that are packed with detail, even in the brightest highlights and darkest shadows. With an ISO range of 100 to 32000, expandable from 50 up to 102400, images can be captured in an array of lighting environments. The enhanced noise processing algorithm further improves low light shooting, ideal for photojournalists who need to capture breaking stories no matter what lighting conditions they face.

Tracking faces and colour of fast moving subjects is easy with the EOS 5D Mark IV’s 61-point wide area reticular AF system. The 61-points / 41 cross-type AF points cover an expanded sensor area and provide the ability to focus even under moonlight at EV -3 in viewfinder shooting mode, or EV -4 in Live View mode.

The EOS 5D Mark IV enables you to use extenders with all telephoto lenses for f/8 AF with all 61 points, including 21 cross type for even greater precision. The high resolution 3.2-inch LCD with full touch panel operation across all menus is combined with a new AF ‘Area Selection’ button providing quick AF point selection. Additionally, the camera features an advanced 150K RGB+IR metering sensor with a dedicated DIGIC 6 processor for accurate exposures and precise subject detection and tracking.

A need for speed

Designed to respond in an instant and never miss a shot, the EOS 5D Mark IV’s high-speed readout technologies and DIGIC 6+ processor mean you can shoot at 7 fps at full resolution, with full AF / AE tracking. Capturing up to 21 RAW images or unlimited JPEGs in a single burst, you’ll always be ready for the next frame. For when discretion is needed - such as capturing breaking news or animals in their natural habitat - the camera features ‘Silent Single’ and ‘Silent Continuous’ modes, offering shooting with minimal noise.

Take the jump to 4K movie-making

With the EOS 5D Mark IV, 4K movie-making is open to anyone who wants to use the power of video to tell the bigger picture. A truly versatile camera, it features DCI 4K (4096 x 2160) at 30/25/24 fps shooting and provides the ability to extract 8.8MP JPEG images from 4K videos, making it a great companion for those wanting to easily switch from video to stills.

Delivering quality footage has never been more important with streaming services increasingly demanding content be shot using the latest technology in the field. The EOS 5D Mark IV brings this advancement in the form of a video DSLR with internal 4K, 120p HD, Dual Pixel CMOS AF, time lapse movie and new HDR movie mode.

Enhanced operability and connectivity

Packed with a range of new and refined features requested by Canon’s professional community, the EOS 5D Mark IV provides unrivalled flexibility in connectivity. Built-in Wi-Fi enables remote operation and secure file transfer (FTPS/FTP) via smart devices using the Canon Camera Connect app, and NFC provides instant connections between compatible devices.

GPS geotags each image in the EXIF data with automatic time updates helping to manage images and, for the first time, IPTC metadata, such as details of a shoot, is automatically embedded.

Enhanced water and dust resistance makes the camera ideal for travel photographers or photojournalists working in challenging terrain.

Canon 100-400mm f4.5-5.6L IS II USM EF Lens

A compact, high-performance 100-400mm zoom lens that’s ideal for those shooting sports, action and wildlife photography. A 4-stop Image Stabilizer and high-quality optics deliver superb sharpness.

  • EF-Mount Lens/Full-Frame Format
  • Aperture Range: f/4.5 to f/38
  • One Fluorite and One Super UD Element
  • Air Sphere Coating
  • Ring-Type Ultrasonic Motor AF System
  • Optical Image Stabilizer
  • Rotating Zoom Ring & Torque Adjustment
  • Weather-Sealed Design, Fluorine Coating
  • Detachable, Rotatable Tripod Collar
  • Rounded 9-Blade Diaphragm

Versatile super-telephoto performance

The EF 100-400MM F/4.5-5.6L IS II USM is ideal for photographers who are travelling light and want to take just one telephoto lens with them. A great choice for sports and wildlife photography – the 100-400mm zoom range puts you right next to distant subjects, and lets you react quickly in a fast-changing situation. When used on cameras featuring APS-C sized sensors, the EF 100-400MM F/4.5-5.6L IS II USM offers angles of view equivalent to a 160-640mm on a full-frame camera.

Stay sharp, whatever the light

The EF 100-400MM F/4.5-5.6L IS II USM delivers sharp, high-contrast images, using Fluorite and Super Ultra-low Dispersion (Super UD) lens elements to tackle artefacts and distortion. A three-mode Image Stabilizer guards against blur from camera shake, allowing handheld shooting with shutter speeds up to 4 stops slower than normal.

Fear no flare

Shoot into the light confident that Canon’s multi-layered Air Sphere Coating (ASC) will protect against flare, ghosting and reduced contrast. ASC uses a multi-layer coating to reduce reflections including a layer of nanosized air spheres deposited on the lens surface to slow down light more gradually as it enters the lens, this prevents the internal reflections that reduce image quality.

Ergonomic handling

Different photographers work in different ways. Use the Zoom Touch Adjustment ring to set the amount of resistance felt when zooming the lens: a light touch is ideal when you’ll be working quickly in a fast-changing situation. On the other hand, you might want to stiffen or lock the zoom mechanism when you don’t want the focal length to change accidentally.

Fast focus when you want it

Enjoy fast USM autofocus that locks on accurately and in near-silence. Full-time manual focus override allows precise adjustment without taking your camera away from your eye. The EF 100-400MM F/4.5-5.6L IS II USM focuses down to 0.98m, letting you react to subjects that come unexpectedly close.

Protected from the great outdoors

Keep shooting even in tough weather conditions. As an L-series lens, the EF 100-400MM F/4.5-5.6L IS II USM is sealed against dust and moisture, so you can keep shooting even when conditions turn bad. A fluorine coating on the lens’ front element repels dirt making the lens easy to clean.

I bought the 5D to replace a 6D and I haven't been disappointed. It's quite a big jump up in price compared with the 6D, which reflects the general robustness of the camera as much as the additional features, resolution and the boost in dynamic range.

Castle Cameras

Brilliant camera, not only capture's great images, but also feels like an extension to your hand. Such a smooth operation, along with precision images, a great tool to use. I enjoy taking photos of race car's in action, along with everyday photos, you couldn't ask for anything better.

WEX

I bought this last month and it got its first field test on a two week family holiday and I'm really happy with the results. It was an easy and intutitive transition from my previous 7D. The image quality is exceptionally good and it handles really well.

Rate My Camera

Amazing camera for any professional photographer. It is not great for anyone wanting to use it for video, it lacks a usable 4K format. But the dual auto focus is outstanding.

Wilkinson Cameras

Have upgraded from a 6D and am really impressed with the improvement in the autofocus system and have customised the focussing and switch from spot to servo onto the back buttons. The touch screen is brilliant. I've found it all quick and easy to handle and the images excellent.

John Lewis

I recently upgraded from the 6D Mark 1 and I was slightly apprehensive about the price tag, however after using this and taking various photos I have found that the price is more than justified.

Photospecialist

My choice of a full frame camera was between the 5DS and the new 5D Mk IV. Given that low light performance and focusing speed are more important to me than ultimate pixel count, I opeted for the latter. The image quality from the 5D IV is fantastic, even down to the lowest light levels.

Harrison Cameras

The camera is a nice weight and fits the hand well. The battery is good providing the GPS isn't on continually. The AF is very fast and really good. The touch screen works well and is great for face tagging and really quick for DOF adjustment. The wifi works, yes I'm surprised as well.

Wow what a camera, to make it perfect I would look to have 10fps burst then it would have the best of everything. the controls are intuitive, presets are easily configurable and it is a joy to work with. I purchased mine with a Canon EF 16-35mm f4 L IS USM Lens and wow a whole new world.
