Pentax SMC FA 50mm f1.4 Classic Lens
Pentax has based the design of their new SMC FA 50mm f1.4 Classic Lens on the SMC PENTAX-FA 50mm F1.4, which was first launched in 1991 for film-format SLR cameras. This is due to a rise in the popularity of the base model that produced distinctive image renditions at open and larger apertures. This version of the lens produces a unique image rendition resembling that created by earlier versions as well as a nostalgic design.
Distinctive imaging characteristics
The SMC FA 50mm f1.4 Classic lens produces an effect known as rainbow flare when you capture an image at an open aperture and against a strong backlight. The photographer can change the size and position of the flare by simply shifting the relative position of the subject and light source. This creates a unique imaging characteristic that is not possible with the latest lenses. You can create images that are free of rainbow flare by closing the aperture to f4 or below.
Nostalgic design
The exterior design of the SMC FA 50mm f1.4 Classic matches Pentax’s SMC PENTAX FA 50mm F1.4 with its black matte finish and a matte-black focus ring.
Perfect for Portraits
The HD FA 50mm f1.4 is the perfect lens for portraits thanks to its 50mm focal length which is close to the field of view of the human eye. The lens offers a 76.5mm focal length when used on an APS-C camera.
Large f1.4 Open Aperture
With a large open aperture of f1.4, the HD FA 50mm f1.4 lens can capture images with a very shallow depth of field. This allows you to create captivating portrait shots with exceptional bokeh.
Water and Grease Repellent
The front surface of the lenses features a water and grease-repellent SP (Super Protect) Coating to make it even easier to keep your lens clean in less-than-ideal situations.
8 Blade Diaphragm
The lens features an eight-blade diaphragm that can produce soft, natural bokeh as well as minimise the streaking effect of point light sources.
Backward Compatibility
The HD FA 50mm f1.4 has been designed to work with older K-mount digital SLR cameras and even film-format AF SLR cameras. All camera functions can still be used thanks to the aperture ring installed on the lens body, as well as the mechanism designed to couple the lens with the camera’s motor-driven, in-body AF system.
