A 24mm to 240mm 10x zoom range allows this one lens to cover an extensive variety of shooting situations, making it ideal for travel where reducing luggage is a priority, for landscapes, architecture, snapshots, portraits, and much more. Switch between wide-angle and telephoto without having to change lenses, so more of those fleeting moments will be captured. Advanced optics effectively subdue aberration while achieving high resolution throughout the image area, and a precision linear motor drives focus for quick, smooth response. Handheld telephoto shots and low-light photography are facilitated by built-in Optical SteadyShot (OSS) image stabilization, and the design is dust and moisture resistant for reliable operation in challenging conditions.

24mm emphasizes the full-frame visual impact

This lens goes wider that most other lenses of this type, with a 24mm wide end that makes a significant difference in the full-frame format. 24mm means more dynamic perspectives for scenery, architecture, indoor shots, and a multitude of other subjects. Excellent resolution is maintained throughout the image area at all focal lengths.

10x zoom captures subjects near or far

24mm to 240mm covers a broad variety of photographic needs. It is a one-lens solution that can reduce baggage when travelling and maximize efficiency at busy events. Move close to the subject and use the telephoto end of the range to create an impressive perspective with smooth bokeh effects for subjects like flowers as well as general photography.

High resolution throughout the zoom range

Five aspherical elements and one ED glass element contribute to high-quality 24mm performance in a compact lens. All types of aberration have been effectively suppressed while high resolution is achieved throughout the image area. An advanced linear motor drives the focusing mechanism for quick, smooth response throughout the extended zoom range.

Sharper images in any light

Built-in Optical SteadyShot (OSS) image stabilization makes it easier to capture clear images when shooting handheld at the telephoto end of the zoom range, in ambient indoor lighting, or when shooting night scenes. For most photography, you can leave the tripod at home!

High reliability in harsh conditions

A design that resists the intrusion of dust and moisture helps to ensure reliable operation in harsh outdoor conditions. Shoot with confidence in light rain or windy conditions.

While it may not be the lens that many Alpha 7-series users were waiting for, the new Sony FE 24-240mm f/3.5-6.3 OSS certainly fills a gap in the range. With the 16-200mm focal length now covered at f/4 with a series of three zoom lenses – the Zeiss Vario Tessar T* FE 16-35mm f/4 ZA OSS, Zeiss Vario...

ePHOTOzine

This superzoom lens adds a convenient zoom option to Sony's burgeoning range of equipment for their full frame mirrorless cameras. The lens is well built, handles well and the addition of dust and moisture resistance is a welcome feature, as it the effective optical stabilisation.

Photography BLOG

As the only native super-zoom lens for Sony A-series cameras, the FE 24-240mm f/3.5-6.3 OSS is a competent, rather than spectacular, optic that's simply priced too high for us to strongly recommend it.

PhotoReview

Like other extended-range zoom lens, the FE 24-240mm can cover everything from wide-angle landscapes to telephoto close-ups – and everything in between. The variable f/3.5-6.3 aperture helps keep lens size and weight relatively low for a lens with a 10x zoom range.

Camera Decision

Camera Labs

The Sony FE 24-240mm f3.5-6.3 OSS is a small and relatively light super-zoom which offers a huge 10x zoom-range with the wide end starting at 24mm focal length. Together with a useful 1:3.6 magnification the lens is an ideal travel companion which covers a wide array of photographic opportunities...

The Digital Picture

"One lens for all occasions" is a phrase Sony has used to describe the FE 24-240mm f/3.5-6.3 OSS Lens. The focal length range of this lens is awesome, alone encompassing the needs of a large majority of occasions.

PC Magazine

The Sony FE 24-240mm F3.5-6.3 OSS lens covers a 10x zoom range on a full-frame camera, but makes some compromises to achieve this feat.

Photodo

A good all round lens for family, landscape and close wildlife. Easy to use and quite light.

This is my first and only lens for my new Sony Alpha 7 mk2. Took it with me to Costa Rica to take wild life photos and was so glad I did. Most photos were taken on full zoom and I had to use the manual focus so that animals were in focus instead of the leaves and branches in front / behind.

I've been searching for a single lens solution to cover landscape, family, air shows and general travel for some years. Coupled with the A7Riii I now have the answer, no more swopping lenses and the resolution for cropping heavily to mimic a longer zoom lens without the weight and bulk.

Coming to Sony from Nikon thisnis the perfect replacement for the nikkor 18-200 (crop) rock solid, good to focus creep and happy in the lake district shooting landscape or in Soho shooting streets. The first lens on your kit list.

This is a very good lens, but not for everyone. Read the long reviews on the web, the ones where people have really used it for several days. The lens has limitations in terms of edge and corner sharpness at some focal lengths, but is not bad at all. Think of it as a very good 28-150 zoom with the option to go a bit wider or to zoom in to 240 with a slight loss of sharpness. Mine will get a lot of use because of the versatility and convenience of using a single lens. Out walking with non-photographers when I don't want to mess around changing lenses it is ideal, and it will get me shots I would otherwise have missed. On the other hand, there will be occasions when I am looking for landscapes with a tripod and a bag of equipment, when I will put it aside in favour of a set of sharper but less versatile lenses.
