The extra speed and wide-angle appeal

This compact, lightweight 24mm ZEISS Sonnar design features an F1.8 maximum aperture plus outstanding frame-wide sharpness and contrast. It can also produce beautifully smooth “bokeh” when required. This lens is an outstanding choice for a wide range of subjects, from landscapes to low-light indoor shots and even 1:4 close-ups.

Get close for impressive detail and impact

An advanced optical design ensures that maximum performance is achieved right down to 1:4 macro focusing distances, making it possible to shoot small subjects and details with dramatic clarity and a wide-angle perspective. The lens’s large F1.8 maximum aperture is an advantage for close-ups too.

Smooth and quiet for quality movies

Smooth, quiet operation is essential for moviemaking. An internal drive motor that achieves fluent, low-noise focus operation makes this lens a good choice for movies as well as stills, keeping imagery solid and noise out of the soundtrack.

Refined exterior finish and feel

The black-finished aluminium alloy exterior of this lens affords an appearance that is eminently suitable for the distinguished ZEISS name, and of course, it blends beautifully with the graceful design of E-mount bodies. The engraved focus ring offers a sophisticated appearance as well as a superior grip and operating feel.

Outstanding colour and contrast

The ZEISS T* coating is an important contributing factor, effectively suppressing spurious reflections that can degrade overall image quality. Flare and ghosting are reduced for enhanced colour and contrast that give images a deep, three-dimensional feel.

The Sony Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* E 24mm f/1.8 ZA is a must-have lens for every E-Mount owner, unless you simply can't stomach the admittedly high price-tag. It delivers stellar results almost throughout its extensive aperture range, and the 36mm focal length proves to be very versatile, possibly making...

This lens delivers performance worthy of the Carl Zeiss name, especially in the centre of the frame, where sharpness is excellent, or even outstanding when stopped down. It is a premium piece of glass, and so it carries a premium price tag.

PC Magazine

The Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* E 24mm F1.8 ZA is an exceptionally sharp, premium wide-angle lens for Sony's APS-C mirrorless system.

Handling and features This wide angle lens provides an angle of view equivalent to a 36mm lens used on a 35mm camera and costs around £760. It has a fast maximum aperture of f/1.8, silent internal focusing and is one of Sony's premium lenses that carries Carl Zeiss branding and T* anti-reflective...

Imaging Resource

Considering the price, you would hope that the Sony 24mm ƒ/1.8 Sonnar T* ZA didn't disappoint - and happily, it doesn't. Sharpness is excellent even wide open, and other factors such as chromatic aberration, distortion and corner shading are well-controlled.

Beautiful lens this - just way too expensive for what it is. I'd go for the 35mm f1.8 & the 85mm f 1.8 & you'd be all set. Get a 10-18mm if you want super wide.

A almost perfect balance of light-weightness, image quality and AF snappiness. The nice things about sony lens is that many of them have the same 49mm filter size and it keeps things simple. Added weather-resistance would be been nice.

Great for landscapes and street photography. Makes you want to up your game and be worthy of the lens

Pricey but definitely worth it! It does everything for you. The depth of field is gorgeous! (But if you don't like a strong depth of field it might not be right for you) The F1.8 is just amazing for video in a low light environment.

My go to prime lens when out being a tourist or in low light situations, it has that something special even though it is not the sharpest on my A6500. It is worth the money I have found as it spends most of the time on the camera while travelling.

The sel24f18z is a top quality lens it feels solid and well made. I take photos using the RAW setting and find photos taken with this lens come straight from the camera looking sharp and vibrant they need very little doing to them.

I bought this lens a few weeks ago to use with the a6000. I have owned the a6000 for a while but haven't used it much because I also have the A7R Mk2 which as a full frame camera has many advantages.

I bought this lens together with my A6500 and both lens and camera fit perfectly. I use this lens to take environmental portrait pictures of children and I'm extremely satisfied with this lens. The lens is sharp and fast and matches perfectly with the camera in terms of size and weight.

Lens with an exceptional track record, so I don't really have to go into detail here. Sharp with beautiful colour rendition and sharpness. Check the results on reviews.
