If a lens belongs to the Luxury series and we have to pay around 1700 $ for it is difficult to accept the fact that it might have some serious slip-ups. Unfortunately the EF 24 mm f/1.4L USM II didn’t manage to avoid them.

Fast aperture prime lens
The EF 24mm f/1.4L II USM has a large maximum aperture of f/1.4, making hand-held shooting possible in low light. Such large apertures can be used to restrict depth of field, even at such short focal lengths. Circular diaphragm blades result in smooth out-of-focus regions (bokeh).
Aspherical and UD elements
For optimum visual performance, the lens incorporates two types of special elements: aspherical elements to correct spherical aberrations, and Super UD (ultra-low dispersion) elements to eliminate secondary chromatic aberrations. The result is crisp, high contrast and undistorted image quality all the way across the frame.
Subwavelength structure lens coating
Canon’s patented lens element coating minimises the ghosting and flare caused by internal reflections within a lens and helps the EF 24mm f/1.4L II USM to deliver crisp, clear images.
Ultrasonic focusing
A ring-type ultrasonic motor drives autofocus extremely quickly, and in near silence. Excellent holding torque ensures the point of focus is reached accurately, without overshooting. Furthermore, full-time manual override is available, making it possible to adjust focus without leaving AF mode.
L-series quality
The L-series is Canon's flagship professional lens range, representing the best in precision-designed EF optics. L-series lenses combine superior performance with superlative handling, and are resistant to dust and moisture.
Lead-free optics
Environmentally friendly, lead-free glass is used throughout the construction of the EF 24mm f/1.4L II USM.

Although it's not cheap, the high price tag is more than justified by the excellent optical performance, build quality and handling. Images produced by this lens have good contrast and are packed with detail.
A professional-standard 24mm prime lens with the latest lens technologies.Replacing Canon’s popular EF 24mm f/1.4L USM, which has been on the market since 1997, the new EF 24mm f/1.4L II USM prime lens has been completely redesigned to match the company’s latest DSLR camera bodies.
The recommendation for Canon EF 24mm f/1.4L II USM should mirror that of its predecessor - if you liked the resolving capabilities of the previous generation lens, you would certainly like the performance capabilities of the revised one.
The second incarnation of Canon's premium fast aperture wide angle lens costs around £1315 and sports a bright f/1.4 maximum aperture, fast ultrasonic focusing and professional-grade weather sealed construction.
The Canon 24mm ƒ/1.4L II USM is an excellent lens, with only two reservations, both relating to the lens' usage on full-frame bodies. The first is some corner softness when used at wide apertures; the second is substantial corner shading, upwards of two stops when used wide open.
The Canon EF 24mm f/1.4L II USM Lens is, without question, Canon's best-performing (optically and physically) and best-built 24mm autofocus lens. It is also Canon's widest angle lens with an aperture wider than f/2.8 - a full 2 stops wider than all wider angle Canon lenses.
Canon 24mm f1.4L II USM is an Auto Focus (AF) Wideangle Prime lens with 35mm FF max sensor coverage and it is designed to be used with Canon EF mount cameras. I've switched out my zooms for primes and I have to say I'm delighted with the results. I purchased the EF 24mm 1.4 L ll, and I've been blown away by the sharpness and contrast of this beautiful lens.
I bought this lens on recommendation from a friend on a trip to Lapland at a time when the sun never rises. So the wide aperture was most important.

I bought this to add to my prime collection after getting worse and worse results from my 24-70L 2.8 zoom at wider ends ie 24mm This prime is very sharp and image quality is very good right to the edges.

A superb lens for low light shooting but also an excellent prime for landscapes on full frame cameras. Optical quality remains excellent on a 1.6 crop camera and still provides a very useful focal length (close to 35mm). Great sharpness even wide open, fast and accurate focus.
