The Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 10-24mm f3.5-4.5G ED is a well-performing and thoroughly enjoyable ultrawide-to-wide zoom lens. It's remarkably sharp in the image centre throughout the entire focal range, with edge sharpness also being commendably high at most settings, except wide open at the 10mm end.

It’s ideal for shooting photos and HD video of landscapes, cityscapes, interiors, architecture and more. It’s also versatile enough to focus on subjects as close as 0.8-ft. And thanks to a host of Nikon technologies, you can be certain that your world will always be captured with remarkable clarity.
Advanced Nikon lens technologies
The AF-S DX NIKKOR 10–24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED is an advanced lens optimized for DX-format Nikon D-SLR cameras. From its ultra-fast, ultra-quiet Silent Wave Motor (SWM) autofocus motor to its ghosting and flare reducing Nikon Super Integrated Coating (SIC), the AF-S DX NIKKOR 10–24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED helps your D-SLR achieve peak performance in both still and HD video shooting.
Silent Wave Motor
AF-S NIKKOR lenses feature Nikon’s Silent Wave Motor (SWM). This technology converts “traveling waves” into rotational energy to focus the optics. This enables high-speed autofocusing that's extremely accurate and super quiet.
ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) Glass
An optical glass developed by Nikon that is used with normal optical glass in telephoto lenses to obtain optimum correction of chromatic aberrations.
AS stands for Aspherical lens elements. This type of lens utilizes non-spherical surfaces on either one or both sides of the glass in order to eliminate certain types of lens aberration.
Select NIKKOR lenses have a focusing mode which allows switching from automatic to manual focusing with virtually no lag time by simply turning the focusing ring on the lens. This makes it possible to seamlessly switch to fine manual focusing while looking through the viewfinder.
A NIKKOR lens in which only the internal lens group shifts during focusing. Thus, IF NIKKORS do not change in size during AF operation, allowing for compact, lightweight lenses capable of closer focusing distances. These lenses will be designated with the abbreviation IF on the lens barrel.
Overall the 10-24mm Nikkor puts in a respectable performance, producing images of excellent sharpness, especially when used at optimum apertures. The issue with softness towards the corners at maximum aperture is worth being aware of, but this shouldn't pose too may issues for most users.
Usually an important argument for buying system lenses is the autofocus mechanism. Here this argument is non-existent. With such short focal lengths the depth of field is so big that the lenses, manufactured by independent companies, don’t cause practically any problems.
Wide Angle The NIKKOR 10-24mm lens is equivalent to 15-36mm in 35mm film terms. This is real-estate wide; not a distorted fish-eye perspective, but sufficiently wide to make the smallest of rooms appear spacious.
Good little lens for its purpose. I have used it with a D7k for interiors and if you stay away from flare points and shoot with a little care, the CA is not too bad (manageable with software corrections). The range is great and is reminiscent of when I shot Canon with the 16-35.
Nikon’s new 10-24mm zoom is mightily similar to the previous 12-24mm version. What Digital Camera reviews the Nikkor AF-S 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED DX lens...
This ultra-wide angle zoom lens for Nikon DX format SLRs costs around £670 and sports fast silent internal focusing with full time manual override. At only 460g, it is a quite a lightweight lens too and it balances perfectly on the Nikon D300 body used for testing.
Nikon has done well with its new ultra-wide angle zoom lens: it's a sharp lens, with corners that don't get significantly soft. CA performance is good, probably excellent on a D3, D300 or other Nikon body that employs CA reduction.
Good build quaility, sharp, good contrast, resistance to flare is pretty good and the only ultra-wide that I think is better is the Olympus 9-18mm MFT lens. As well as using on a Nikon D90, I am now using the 10.24 on Olympus MFT cameras via a Metabones Speedbooster with great results.
Purchased for internal room and external architecture photography and have also found the lens good for wide angle video. Produces sharp pictures.
I use this lens on my Nikon D5100, it was a lovely addition to my other lenses. Its great for landscape and captures a very large area. The scope is really very large. The only drawback i can note is the weight, the lens is on the heavy side but saying that i am loving using it
A good wide-angle zoom lens for DX, gives a good image quality and 2mm shorter focal length compared to the better-rated 12-24 for a somewhat lower price.
Great lense and one of my favourites, take some fun and interesting shots. Use it for Landscape and so useful for shots of buildings and indoor in halls and rooms. I considered against the competion and after deliberation went for the Nikon, and have no regrets at all.
Bought this lens for landscape, architecture and natural history habitat pictues. I use this lens on my Nikon D90 and love its ease of use. For people who are fed up not getting everything they want in the photo, this is the lens to use. Just be careful or you'll find your toes in the picture!
Used with my D7000 I wanted a lens for interior shots as well as landscape. Compared to my Sigma 18-50 it is lighter, faster, and whilst in bright sunlight the difference is not so apparent, in cloud there is far more detail and tone.
