Zoom to 600mm, or 1200 with a teleconverter

Compatible with optional 1.4x and 2.0x teleconverters, for a maximum focal length of 840mm or 1200mm at F13. Both teleconverters are top quality, retaining outstanding image quality and AF performance. Zoom and aperture range with the 1.4x teleconverter is 280-840mm, F8-9. With the 2.0x teleconverter, the ranges are 400-1200mm, F11-13.

High resolution throughout the zoom range

Five ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements and one aspherical element in a new optical design offer superb resolution and image quality throughout the zoom range. The aspherical element suppresses spherical aberration and distortion, while the ED glass elements minimize chromatic aberration that can be a problem at super-telephoto focal lengths.

Beautiful, natural G lens bokeh

An 11-blade circular aperture mechanism adds to the beauty of the bokeh produced by this lens, making it possible to use the narrow depth of field available at super-telephoto focal lengths to produce striking images with deep, creamy G lens bokeh.

Nano AR Coating stops flare and ghosting

Sony’s original Nano AR Coating has a uniform nanometer-level structure that breaks up the lens’s boundary surface, significantly reducing reflections that can cause image-degrading flare and ghosting. The overall result is superior image clarity and contrast

3-mode Optical SteadyShot

Optical Image Stabilisation makes it easier to shoot sharp images handheld at super-telephoto focal lengths. MODE 2 offers ideal Stabilisation for panned shots, while MODE 3 provides enhanced viewfinder Stabilisation that allows easier framing of erratic sports or wildlife movement. 5-axis Stabilisation is available with compatible α bodies.

Fast, precise AF tracks swift subjects

Sony’s DDSSM (Direct Drive SSM) system has the power and precision needed to drive the lens’s mechanism for remarkably fast, accurate focusing. High positioning accuracy means that no movement is wasted. Pinpoint autofocus is achieved with blazing speed. The DDSSM system is incredibly quiet, too.

Dust and moisture resistant design

A dust and moisture resistant design provides the reliability needed for outdoor use in challenging conditions.

Fluorine front element coating

The front lens element features a fluorine coating that repels water, oil, and other contaminants while making it easier to wipe off any contaminants or fingerprints that do become attached to the lens surface.

Removable tripod mount

A removable tripod mount allows quick attachment to or removal from a tripod so the user can easily switch between tripod and handheld shooting. The mount can also be removed for convenient transport and storage. A lock mechanism prevents accidental removal.

The last couple of years has seen Sony make a conscious effort to deliver what so many professionals have been calling for, which is longer and faster telephoto lenses deserving of their fabulous lineup of full-frame mirrorless cameras.

PC Magazine

The Sony FE 200-600mm F5.6-6.3 G OSS is a premium zoom lens. Its focal length is an ideal fit for wildlife and sports specialists, and an internal zoom design sets it apart from lesser-priced alternatives.

Camera Labs

The FE 200-600mm is a very compelling option for Sony Alpha mirrorless owners who desire a long reach without breaking the bank, their back or compromising on performance. Sigma and especially Tamron may have cheaper 150-600mm options available, but they won’t focus anywhere near as well when...

The Digital Picture

The FE 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 G OSS Lens was a great addition to Sony's E-mount lens lineup. This lens along with the simultaneously introduced Sony FE 600mm f/4 GM OSS Lens significantly extended the dimension of available focal length choices, providing great options for especially wildlife and...

Sony

Recent purchase for wildlife photography. I am really pleased with the quality and IQ of this lens and apart from weight which is common in these longer lenses I consider it to be one of my best purchases

Wex Photo Video

Used on Sony A7RIIIA. General and astro photography. Good points. Sharp results. When zooming stays at one length. Lock focus button on barrel, easy to rotate on tripod mount, good at wide open aperture, focusses quickly on auto and hardly any difference in sharpness when switching antishake on off.

I am very happy with this lens I have only used it a few times and it has not disappointed me the internal zoom is very good I am just a hobby photographer so not able to give a detailed review but if you want a native lens then this will not disappoint

Wilkinson Cameras

Awesome quality. Super useful zoom range with beautiful results. Incredible reach with 600mm and option to purchase a quality teleconverter for even more… Amazing wildlife shots – and when pairing with a full format sensor 42MP body just incredible. Very happy with puchase.

Harrison Cameras

Quality product. Getting good results already. Only problem is the lens hood. It drops off and I have had to retrace my steps a couple of times to recover. Shooting hand held not a problem. Very happy with purchase.

Sony

What an amazing lens this is - for such a large focal length ,its suprisingly easy to carry around .I really like the zoom - 200mm to 600m in quarter of a turn - brilliant ! The build quality is fantastic too,as are the images ( amazingly sharp) - and I also love that it has internal zooming - stays...

I bought this lens almost a month and I really enjoyed shooting with this lens. I always like to zoom in photos to check the quality and it never disappoint me. Sometimes tracking birds will lose focus but most of the time it locks on target. Motorsports is also excited to shoot with this lens.

Castle Cameras

Lightning fast focussing. Very sharp images. Optical stabilisation works well. Smooth zoom action. Integrates well with my A7. Heavy, but I fitted a neoprene strap to the lugs on the lens body which helps with carrying it around.

+ Superb lens to accompany my new a7m4 Fast focus , great bokeh , bird eye af works really well and well built lens Allowing me to achieve wildlife shots I could not with my Fuji Glad I went for reach over 100-400 gm with telecon as still can add 1.4 tc as wildlife need space - Weight/ size means best used with monopod but I can hand hold for about an hour before fatigue sets in but then again I am 70 ! Use with peak design on lugs and camera body and easily carried Fantastic value fir money

1st class lens

This is super amazing lens released by Sony. I was using the adapted Tamron Sony A mount lens using LEA3 adapter for the last 5 years since I got Sony A7R, A7Rii, A7Riii and A7iii. I think why haven't I switched to this lens early. Overall this is well build professionally with G series marking. I would have been happy to add extra 500£ if they have made it GM making aperture same from 200 to 600 MM range. With this lens I have used both A7Riii and A7iii. Also, I tired Sony 1.4x Tele-Converter with this lens. A very strange behavior I have noticed with Sony A7Riii (my copy)+ 1.4x + Sony G 200-600; while focusing it jitters and give wavy effect on whole viewfinder. Focus also struggles and I missed many shots. With A7iii + 1.4x + Sony G 200-600 its super fast. Very quick, even the buffer keep writing to the Sony Tough cards (300 mbps write speed) and I don't find lag in firing the shutter. No lag, quite satisfying experience. As all knows when Sony camera writes it won't allow any functional/setting changes, which is part of Sony Environment. I haven't tested it on Sony A9 or A9ii. If given chance I will try. As an enthusiast into Bird and Wildlife photography I can't afford any lens from Sony side on super tele range beyond this lens. For Sony GM 400 and GM 600, I have to sell my kidney... haha. Overall a very sturdy, weather seal, well balance lens in regards to built quality, handling and shooting experience. I will highly suggest it to people who are looking for the super tele lens to try this or get it on rent before making final purchase. For image gallery please write to me, I will write article on this if CameraWorld think the worth.

Excellent long telephoto. Quick and easy to change from 200 to 600 with no length change. Just a short twist of the smooth zoom ring. Cracking sharp results. IS works well with IBIS. Great price. Lovely lens.

Chose this as a compact (relative) super zoom for sports and some landscape work. It is sharp and easy to use. Love it already!

Great lens for wildlife and works well with Sony's AF tracking.

Excellent lens Quiet exact and instant focus Great colours and contrast Pin sharp Internal focusing and zooming, so fixed length throughout zoom range and therefore less dust Dust and water resistant Comes with tripod collar, hood and soft case
