Suitable for shooting portraits, landscapes and general photography, this lens is a natural ‘walk-around’ partner for the α7 cameras, partly because of its size but also because it has been designed for high-performance cameras.

A versatile zoom for everyday shooting
The optical performance and 24mm to 70mm range of this ZEISS Vario-Tessar design are a perfect match for compact full-frame E-mount bodies. In addition to consistently superior image quality at all focal lengths, it provides a versatile zoom range in a compact lens that can bring out the very best in 7 series bodies for a wide range of subjects.
Refined optics deliver stunning images
Five aspherical elements and one ED glass element in a state-of-the-art optical path suppress aberration for outstanding clarity and beautiful rendering throughout the range. The acclaimed ZEISS T* coating controls reflections for superior contrast, and a circular aperture contributes to smooth background bokeh with natural highlights.
Constant exposure at any zoom setting
Constant F4 aperture at all focal lengths means that the user can zoom and shoot at any aperture without having to worry about changes in exposure settings or depth of field, concentrating on the image rather than technical details.
Always sharp and clear
Built-in Optical SteadyShot image stabilization compensates for camera shake that can blur images when shooting handheld. Sharp, clear night scenes or indoor shots in dim lighting can be captured without the need to boost ISO sensitivity and risk increased noise.
Outstanding colour and contrast
The ZEISS T* coating is an important contributing factor, effectively suppressing spurious reflections that can degrade overall image quality. Flare and ghosting are reduced for enhanced colour and contrast that give images a deep, three-dimensional feel.
Extra-low Dispersion Glass element
Lenses constructed with conventional optical glass struggle with chromatic aberration as the focal length increases. Extra-low Dispersion (ED) glass counters these issues, delivering superior contrast and colour quality across the entire focal length – even at large-aperture settings.
7-bladed circular aperture
The 7-blade circular makes it possible to achieve smoother, more natural defocusing in your images. Get creative with artistic blurring or 'bokeh' – and greater control over the depth of field.
Reliable and easy in any conditions
Reliable operation in a variety of conditions is ensured by a design that prevents dust and moisture from entering the lens.

The Sony FE 24-70mm f/4 ZA OSS is a very attractive lens on several fronts. The size and weight are very convenient. The AF performance is good. The lens looks great and has a comfortable luxury feel. The image quality is decent
The Carl Zeiss Vario Tessar T* FE 24-70mm f/4 OSS ZA didn't really convince us completely - not at this price point for sure. While it is a joy to use the lens thanks to its high quality finish and super smooth controls, the optical characteristics aren't quite as impressive.
Wow, this my's well be 4 prime lenses in one, sharpness and resolution, build quality all top notch, fast focus and colors are Zeiss quality. Forget the new Canon 24-70 II, this kicks it's ass
After seeing superb results from the two Sony/Zeiss FE primes, the 55mm ƒ/1.8 and 35mm ƒ/2.8 , we had high hopes that the Zeiss-branded 24-70 ƒ/4 lens would be another excellent piece of glass.
I've seen a number of 'reviews' saying that this lens is really poor at the edges but either I've got a good example or they have improved the lens over the years as my copy is pretty good.
At the time I got this I had three alpha bodies. The a99ii , a7iii, and a7Riii. The a7iii came with the 28-70mm kit lens. I had been using the Zeiss 24-70 F2.8 on my a99ii. I tired of switching back and forth with the A mount 24-70 on a LA-EA-4 adapter.

After using this lens for a few times, I find it's quality is amazing, with good contrast and smooth to use zooming operation also takes stunning photos . It is also light and not too large to carry as it's my reason to buy this good Zeiss lens.
Happy so far. Will not really know until the new year. Solid build and great light collection. Think it is a good choice for an ll round lens. Definitely superior to the cheaper 50mm prime lens.

I'm doing photos long time, tested different systems, but only with Sony camera and my first lens Zeiss i get quality that i need. Aperture not a problem with A7C camera
