The RX100 VII is powered by a newly developed 1.0-type stacked Exmor RS CMOS image sensor and the latest-generation BIONZ X image processor. This combination delivers new levels of autofocus performance and achieves speed breakthroughs that have previously only been seen on the Alpha 9. The flexibility of shooting is ensured by a ZEISS® Vario-Sonnar T* 24-200mm F2.8-4.5 high magnification zoom lens, making the RX100 VII a versatile choice for all types of shooting scenarios and users, from photo enthusiasts to professionals.

New Standard for AF Performance in a Compact Camera

The RX100 VII offers a world-leading 357 focal-plane phase-detection AF points and 425 contrast-detection AF points. In addition, thanks to a newly optimised lens drive control, world’s fastest 0.02 sec AF acquisition time is realised. A major leap in AF/AE tracking performance during continuous shooting means the camera performs AF/AE calculations up to 60 times per second and captures fast-moving action at 20fps with AF/AE tracking, ensuring that each moment is shot with swift and accurate focus.

In addition, the image sensor realises blackout-free shooting for a completely live view, even when continuous shooting at 20fps; the same experience as the Alpha 9. The RX100 VII also debuts a new drive mode, Single Burst Shooting, for capturing the perfect high-speed shot at up to 90fps in JPEG/RAW format utilising the anti-distortion shutter. ‘Single Burst Shooting’ allows the photographer to frame fast-moving action and shoot as if taking a single shot but the camera will actually deliver 7 still images, taken at 90fps, 60fps or 30fps, so the user can select the perfect moment.

For the first time in a compact camera, the RX100 VII introduces advanced ‘Real-time Tracking’ and ‘Real-time Eye AF’ capabilities. ‘Real-time Tracking’ utilises Sony’s latest algorithm including artificial intelligence-based object recognition to ensure that subjects can be captured with excellent accuracy, even via the touch panel on the rear screen. ‘Real-time Eye AF’, the latest version of Sony’s acclaimed Eye AF technology, employs AI-based object recognition to detect and process eye data in real-time, resulting in improved accuracy, speed and tracking the performance of Eye AF for both humans and animals and allows the photographer to concentrate exclusively on composition.

Movie-Making Marvel

The compact and lightweight characteristics of the RX100 VII (approx. 302g / 102mm x 58mm x 43mm) means it can always be carried around and can be mounted in places that larger cameras cannot. But its small factor belies a multitude of pro-level movie-making capabilities perfect for on-the-go shooting such as vlogging:

  • 4K in-body movie recording with full pixel readout and no pixel binning in high bit rate XAVCS™
  • Real-time Tracking and Real-time Eye AF for video
  • 4K Active SteadyShot that is 8x more effective than 4K Standard SteadyShot
  • Integrated Microphone input
  • Hybrid Log-Gamma (HDR) / S-Gamut3.Cine / S-Log3, S-Gamut3/S-Log3
  • Compatibility with ‘Movie Edit add-on’ from the ‘Imaging EdgeTM’ mobile application for movie stabilisation and editing
  • Vertical-position data recording for movies
  • Interval Shooting for stunning time-lapse videos
  • Super Slow Motion recording at up to 1000fps
  • 180-degree flip screen for ease-of-use whilst vlogging

From the absence of expected features to its lofty price tag, there's plenty to irk those drawn to the likes of the RX100 VII. And yet, with its strong image quality, detailed 4K videos and a class-leading AF performance, the latest addition to the RX100 line still manages to be one of the most...

T3

A fantastic pocket-friendly camera that gives you a huge amount of power in a teeny tiny package. There’s a hell of a lot to love about the Sony RX100 VII - but the price will be a big stumbling block for many.

ePHOTOzine

The Sony Cyber-shot RX100 VII has a lot to offer and improves on the RX100 VI , making this an excellent camera. With a high-quality 8.3x optical zoom lens that impressed us on the RX100 VI , but with new features, and high-speed shooting, as well as a microphone socket on the side, what's not to...

Pocket Lint

About as perfect as small-scale, high-end compact cameras get. If you can afford one, that is, as this has never been a budget series.

Sony’s pocket travel zoom gains the latest autofocus technology, says Andy Westlake, but fixes none of the line’s glaring faults

Expertreviews.co.uk

The RX100 VII could be a great choice for travellers with strict weight requirements - and deep pockets

PhotoReview

The latest iteration of Sony’s popular RX100 series features a redesigned sensor, upgrades autofocusing system, faster response times and a microphone port.

DP Review

The RX100 VII is the most capable pocket camera currently on the market. It offers a versatile zoom range and an industry-leading AF implementation, as well as good image quality and smooth, stabilized 4K. However the small maximum aperture of the lens does limit the camera's use in dim light.

PC Magazine

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 VII point-and-shoot is a modest update to the RX100 VI, offering better autofocus and video stabilization for a bit more money.

I bought this a few weeks ago. I’ve had this range before and decided to go up a grade to the Nikon Z range, after a year l swapped back to the compact Sony. I’m so glad I did, it’s light weight, it has the same lens as my Nikon but for me the fact that I can put this smart camera in my handbag is a...

I am already a Sony a7iii convert however I wanted something a little more lightweight for hiking without having to sacrifice too much on quality. It's taking me a little longer than I expected to adjust to the size and I'm almost afraid it will slip through my fingers, however it handles well and...

I have owned full frame DSLRs and now Mirrorless models since they came in the market. For many years I also had on APS C cropped sensor camera for when sized matters. A friend recommended one of the cameras in this series as a go to pocketable camera. After some use I understand his enthusiasm.

Castle Cameras

Excellent little camera, a bit pricey but worth it. Best compact camera on the market in my opinion.

Wex Photo Video

A superb compact camera with a flexible zoom range and great video capability. Small, compact an high quality

I was previously using a DSLR camera, but the motherboard went. I mostly used it on auto settings and never really used it to it’s full potential, so I made the decision to purchase a compact camera. I did my research and this came out well. I’ve not yet been disappointed at all!

I bought this RX100 VII camera recently after being on a vacation trip and feeling that my RX10 IV was a little big to carry around. The RX100 VII has all the same features (some even better) with less but adequate zoom range for vacations. 4K video is great with Active Image Stabilization.

I bought this camera just over a week ago and I am thrilled with it. I wanted a compact camera which shot in RAW, with a viewfinder and a long zoom. It has all these things and more. This is the first Sony I have used so I'm finding my way around the controls.

Amazing camera, full of very useful functions. Very light and compact.

Having traded in the earlier model Mark iv I have thoroughly enjoyed essentially the same overall sized camera, which is so easy to carry around everywhere, but with all the additional extra features of the much more expensive and bulky DSLR or mirrorless models: eye focusing system and extended zoom range for just two features that I use regularly. Shame I didn't receive it within the stated time-frame from the supplier though, they sent another model, so it took over a week to arrive!?

A super little camera that takes fantastic images. So much has been packed into a tiny body. This was bought to take pictures at concerts but I will be using it for all kinds of photography, once we are allowed to go out and shoot!
