What can be said...this Canon lens is really a good piece of work. For a ‘pancake’ type of device its performance is simply sensational and you get it all for a sensible amount of money. We regret only one thing: the fact that the lens is not as fast as f/2.0.

Portable ‘pancake’ design
At just 22.8 mm deep, and weighing just 125g, the EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM is a highly portable lens that lets you take your EOS anywhere. Its diminutive design makes it discreet too – ideal for street photography.
Natural perspective
The 24mm focal length when used on an APS-C EOS body gives the same angle of view as a 38mm lens on a full-frame DSLR. That’s close to that of the human eye, so your pictures will have a natural look and feel about them.
Smooth, quite focusing
Near-silent STM focusing locks on quickly when shooting still photos, and provides smooth focus transitions when capturing movies, for footage that’s free from distracting focusing noise.*
Wide aperture for low-light shooting
A fast maximum aperture of f/2.8 lets in lots of light, letting you shoot in dark conditions without using flash. It’s ideal for creating shallow depth-of-field effects too, letting you isolate your subject against a soft, out-of-focus background.
Advanced optical design
Enjoy razor-sharp performance right across the frame, with high resistance to flare and coloured fringing. Get as near as 16cm to small subjects for a close-up view of the world.
* When used with compatible EOS bodies

The Canon EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM is a tiny prime lens that delivers surprisingly good image quality given its inexpensive price-point, making it a great moderate wide-angle addition to a compact, lightweight EOS kit.
Those looking for a compact companion for their EF-S camera body need look no further. The 38mm equivalent field of view this lens provides is only a little wider than a standard lens, which will make it suited for a wide range of subjects.
When we look at all the new photographic equipment that appears each year, it’s easy to get swept along by the big announcements such as super-high resolution cameras and ultra-fast lenses.
Perfect for street and travel photography, the 24mm f/2.8 offers great image quality in an extremely portable package. While there are cheaper prime lenses available, Canon’s new pancake is a reasonably priced choice for those looking to keep their kit bag as lightweight as possible, while achieving...
The Canon EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM is the sharp, compact, and inexpensive lens that every Canon shooter should own.
If you’re after an own-brand APS-C format Canon prime lens, the Canon EF-S 24mm f/2.8 is the only option...
Canon likes to promote the incredible number of lenses they have produced. This production figure far exceeds 100 million as I create the Canon EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM Lens review. Providing lenses like this one in their lineup will, very significantly, increase Canon's production figures and marketing...
We think that pancake lenses are slightly odd approach for minimizing the size of DSLR setup - if you want really small gear, mirrorless cameras are the way to go. That being said, many users seem to disagree here and we can't really argue against the obvious success of the Canon EF 40mm f/2.8 STM...
This compact wide-angle pancake lens for Canon APS-C format digital SLRs features Canon's latest stepping focusing motor technology, which promises, smoother, quieter autofocus performance, which is especially suited to recording video. The lens is super-cheap as well being priced at around £170.
I got this lens as a first into into macro. It isn't really a macro lens but I make pretty decent close-ups with it. F/2.8 is a great feature and lens works well in low light conditions. I used it for food photography but it is much better for portraits and landscapes.
Close focus distance is great, STM focus is quick in auto and manual mode, will use it for infrared projects using a 1300D / APS-C but also for my Canon R Video, where I can either enable super 35crop or shot in 4k which is also cropped, it has a fast aperture compared to my usual lens 24-105 RF f4...
Love this lens so small and compact you hardly know that it's on the camera and very reasonably priced, I shoot a lot of outdoor events and sports and I'm amazed at the results that I can achieve with this lens definitely worth buying.
I've not had it long but have been very pleased with the quality of the images. Colour and sharpness are both good. The lens is very light and makes for a very portable system when paired with my Canon EOS 760D. Excellent value for the price.
I've been using this lens for a month or two on my EOS760D and have only taken it off once! I'm totally amazed at the quality and crispness of the imaging, near silent focussing and wide angle. It's perfect for a beginner or a pro, when its mounted on the camera you don't even know its there.
I love this pancake lens, having used the 40mm pancake for some time I took the plunge and grabbed this 24mm pancake. I am happy to say it hasn't disappointed me. Its the one lens that has been on my camera most of all since I bought it. Photography: I love how small the canon pancake lenses are.

Originally I was unsure whether to get this lens as I already had a 50mm prime lens but I bought it as a last minute purchase before going to Iceland. So glad I did. The price was fantastic and the lens is perfect. It's tiny so very portable and so much wider than a 50mm, it's great for landscapes.
Surprisingly good little lens for wide angle shots, very good and sharp images. Especially for the price. Could be too wide for some uses
I purchased this item as a prime semi wide angle lens for my 550D. Because of the focal length it is easy to get everything into focus if that is what you want in a landscape. The max aperture of F2.8 also ensures backgrounds can be softened to emphasise foreground objects. Also the use of ND graduated filters is made easier because the front of the lens body does not rotate although it goes in and out. The focussing system is not as quiet as i would have expected for a video lens. With the lens fitted the camera is very compact which is good for discreet walk about photography.
I chose this lens because I was looking for one that I could use for street photography and which would work in low light conditions. Cost was also a factor and I think this lens is excellent value for money. Being only 24mm deep it is easy to carry in a pocket and when it's on my camera it's unobtrusive. So far I am delighted with the results.
