Situated as a versatile camera with capable photo and video traits, the Canon EOS 90D is a sleek DSLR also characterized by its high-resolution 32.5MP APS-C CMOS sensor. This updated sensor design achieves enhanced image clarity, resolution, and dynamic range, along with adept sensitivity and low noise to suit working in a variety of situations. Combined with advanced image processing, this sensor is also capable of outputting UHD 4K30p and Full HD 120p video, as well as supporting continuous stills shooting rates up to 10 fps. When working with the optical viewfinder, an apt 45-point all cross-type AF system affords fast performance in a range of lighting conditions for tracking moving subjects and working in low light, while the 5481-point Dual Pixel CMOS AF system benefits live-view shooting and movie recording by providing a smooth, natural focusing quality akin to the way a camcorder acquires focus.

Complementing the imaging capabilities, the 90D sports a vari-angle touchscreen LCD for intuitive control and compositional freedom, and an optical pentaprism viewfinder provides a bright, clear, and realistic viewing means characteristic of the DSLR shooting experience. Additionally, built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity allow you to pair mobile devices with the camera to wirelessly transfer files for sharing your photos and movies online.

32.5MP APS-C CMOS Sensor

Featuring an impressively high-resolution 32.5MP APS-C CMOS sensor, the 90D is capable of producing imagery with notable clarity and dynamic range, as well as a broad sensitivity range and low noise to support working in difficult lighting situations. The sensor and image processor also realize fast performance throughout the camera system, including the ability to shoot continuously at up to 10 fps, record UHD 4K30p video, or record high-speed Full HD 1080p video at 120 fps.

45-Point All Cross-Type AF and Dual Pixel CMOS AF Systems

Benefitting stills shooting with the optical viewfinder, a wide-area 45-point all cross-type phase-detection autofocus system provides quick and precise focusing in difficult lighting conditions down to -3 EV. For working with telephoto lenses fitted with extenders, 27 of the points are capable of focusing down to f/8 and the centre dual cross-type offers increased precision at brighter aperture values. The cross-type design of the sensors affords greater accuracy in low-contrast and mixed lighting conditions, and the broad coverage of the 45 sensors is ideal for tracking and maintaining focus on moving subjects.

Making use of the 45-points is a series of four AF area selection modes, including single-point AF; Zone AF, where you can select from one of nine AF zones; Large Zone AF, which offers a choice of three selectable zones; and 45-point AF auto selection, which allows the camera to select a single point automatically.

When recording video or shooting in live view, a Dual Pixel CMOS AF system is employed that features 5481 selectable autofocus points. This focusing system offers smooth and fast focusing performance in a similar manner to how a camcorder acquires focus. Dual Pixel CMOS AF integrates two separate photodiodes within each pixel to provide a broad and dense network of phase-detection gathering elements across a majority of the image sensor to reduce focus hunting for faster, more direct control of focus placement.

When working with still imagery, this focusing system works to acquire focus quickly and accurately, making it ideally suited to shooting and tracking moving subjects so that critical focus is attained with each shot. When shooting video, a Movie Servo AF mode offers smooth and natural focusing when changing from different subjects or different distances within the scene, as well as the ability to specify tracking sensitivity, AF speed, and Face Tracking priority. Benefited by the Touch AF system, rack focus is possible simply by touching elements within the scene on the touchscreen in order to change focus in an intuitive manner. Subject tracking in movies is also heightened due to the Dual Pixel CMOS AF system's ability to recognize subjects and maintain focus when working within changing or cluttered scenery.

The optional Power Zoom Adapter PZ-E1 accessory gives you the ability to have simple and smooth servo-assisted zoom control.

Compact, high performance lens

Compact and lightweight with a stylish premium finish this versatile EF-S lens delivers high image quality with reduced chromatic aberration throughout the focal range thanks an optical design featuring UD and aspherical lens elements with the Super Spectra coating to reduce flare and ghosting.

Well built, reasonably fluid in use and festooned with plentiful control options, both in terms of physical buttons and its touch screen menus, the Canon EOS 90D is the very definition of a ‘comprehensive’ camera.

Trusted Reviews

Externally, the 90D is pretty similar to its predecessor, the 80D. Placing the two side by side, it’ll be hard to spot too big of a difference, as it’s internally where you find most of the big changes.

TechRadar UK

If you still prefer DSLRs to mirrorless cameras, there's a lot to like about the Canon EOS 90D – it's a feature-packed DSLR with a high-resolution sensor and speedy, smooth performance.

The new standard bearer for the traditional DSLR – performance, usability and great image quality in one reasonably priced package

Amateur Photographer

Do new DSLRs still have a place in a market that’s been overtaken by mirrorless?

Pocket Lint

At a glance Canon's latest enthusiast DSLR doesn't appear that different to the outgoing 80D. But with a large bump in resolution and burst shooting it's an altogether different beast.

ePHOTOzine

If you're looking for a Digital SLR, then the Canon EOS 90D gives a range of compelling features, that make it a great choice. As a DSLR, rather than a mirrorless camera, it also offers exceptional battery life, with 1300 shots possible before the battery is depleted.

techAU

The body of the 90D is surprisingly light, making it easier to carry and use for extended shoots. This reduced weight, will likely mean you’ll take it with you to more places. In terms of design, it’s a very familiar layout if you’ve ever used any Canon before.Previous experience in cameras matters...

PhotoReview

The EOS 90D is ideal for photo enthusiasts who prefer the look and feel of a DSLR body and would rather use an optical viewfinder than an EVF.

Craving Tech

Canon EOS 90D Review – Canon EOS 90D is Canon’s mid-range DSLR camera released in 2019. It’s the next iteration of Canon EOS 80D that I reviewed a couple years ago and is loaded with enhancements worth to look at.

Canon

I have been using Canon cameras for over 40 years (starting with the AE-1 and A-1) which have all been brilliant. I therefore expected and obtained excellence with the EOS 90D. I found the camera easy to use however it is very feature rich with many different settings it will take me some time to...

Bought this canon 90d upgraded from a canon 7d mkii. It's lighter and I like the tilt touchscreen as I'm doing more landscape and different angle shots. WiFi and Bluetooth is a good feature. Frames per second is on par with the 7dmkii but not the AF .

Pros: •This camera is very well built. •Not easily breakable. •Flip screen 360 degrees for content creators. I love it. Cons: •Noisy •Heavy •Picture quality in my opinion is better than 18 megapixel camera , but not by much. Noise is still present in every shot.

Wilkinson Cameras

Still getting used to the new camera, but after the first couple of uses seems to be a big improvement (as you'd expect) on my EOS 600D. Fast, responsive, a wider range of auto-focus points and set ups and a much faster continuous shooting speed.

Castle Cameras

So much to learn! getting to grips with it. I have only operated it in Automatic mode, but the results have been good. The speed of the auto-focus is phenomenal compared with my old way of manually focusing and the results are sharp (as one would expect).

I bought the 90d to replace my 760d which was the best camera that i have had, but was getting a little old now. so i got the 90d because it had some good reviews after a couple of weeks use i am finding it better than the 760 but takes a bit to get use to because of the number of buttons.

Wex Photo Video

After reading so many derogatory reviews of the 90D I was reluctant to part with my 80D. However, I decided to give to a try and I have absolutely no regrets. Image quality (contrast, colours, detail, etc) is far better than the 80D whilst the 10fps frame rate allows the reliable capture of action...

I love this camera but it is taking some getting used to. I'm Definitely not a beginner and I have been daunted by this. I wouldn't recommend to a person who is buying there first Dslr. It would just confuse them. But if you aren't a beginner then Don't hesitate. Get one!

A great camera. It does what it says on the box and I'm enjoying using it.

Superb camera and optics at the price point.

I've not had many opportunities to use my 90D so far. I am a beginner and have done some outdoor portrait photography for the first time and I am very pleased with the results. The 90D is heavier than my previous 2000D and feels more like a camera should feel. I like the flip screen for more awkward angle shots. I am loving learning how to use the 90D which I have named "The Beast".

the camera offers really good quality over all, good inmprovemnts due to the new sensor and sensor size... somehow good performance under low light and the stablization is practical on all points.. the lens is sharp but somehow disappointing in comparison to other rivals espicially for the the original price of the product .. i would still recommend it for any day any situation
