I bought this for m 50/1.8 obviously to control lens flares, but also (mostly) to protect the front element of the lens. The 50/1.8 STM front element extends during focusing, and unless you zero it out before you remove the lens from the body, it stays extended.

What can I say, it is a lens hood that does lens hood stuff The build quality is what I expect to see from Canon and it is even one-up from other lens hoods I have for STM lenses because of the manner in which it locks onto the lens; well done Canon.

It's great, feels thicker and more solid due to uniformed circular shape of the lens hood. The fit is tight and snug, and it comes with a button for the hood to be detached, preventing any accidental removal. Great product, absolutely recommend it!

Unless you are going for some kind of purposeful lens flare effects, this is other item you should purchase for your thrifty fifty lens. One cannot say enough about how good current lens coatings are at reducing image loss when lens elements are hit with direct light, but better to never have that...

So far, I always buy canon name brand lens hoods for my lenses, and they have yet to disappoint. Hood works well, and being able to flip it around for more compact travel is definitely a plus.

This lens hood was bought as a gift, along with a lens and filter, the recipient is very happy with the filter.

The Canon ES-68 lens hood fits easily and perfectly on the EF 50mm f/1.8 STM lens. Very satisfied.

Spend the extra few dollars and buy the Canon brand ES-68 hood for your EF 50mm f1.8 STM lens. Fits very nicely on the lens.

The product is fine but like all Canon lens hoods expensive.
