Shoot beautiful wide-angle architectural shots, landscapes, group portraits and more; then zoom in for a natural field of view that is slightly wider than what we see with our eyes. You can even get as close as 0.92-feet from your subject! And since the AF-S NIKKOR 18-35mm f/3.5-4.5G ED is powered by Nikon's Silent Wave Motor (SWM) for ultra-fast, ultra-quiet autofocusing, it's an ideal choice for video applications.

Wide-angle to standard zoom versatility

The AF-S NIKKOR 18-35mm f/3.5-4.5G ED is an excellent travel and all-purpose lens. Its 18mm wide-angle perspective brings more of what you see into the frame, ideal for shooting indoors or in close quarters, capturing architecture and landscapes as well as group portraits. But zoom all the way in, and you get a natural 35mm perspective that mimics the field of view of our eyes, ideal for just about any photo or video application.

Ultra-fast, ultra-quiet autofocusing

The AF-S NIKKOR 18-35mm f/3.5-4.5G ED is powered by Nikon's innovative Silent Wave Motor (SWM). This extraordinary focusing motor uses ultrasonic vibrations—rather than a gear system—to spin the lens barrel, resulting in nearly silent and ultra-fast autofocusing. If you want to override the AF system, simply take control of the focusing ring—M/A mode enables a seamless transition between auto and manual focusing.

Nikon lens technologies for consistently stunning images

Nikon's innovations in optical design and lens technology have paved the way for more affordable high-performance lenses like the AF-S NIKKOR 18-35mm f/3.5-4.5G ED. Two Extra-low Dispersion (ED) elements produce superior sharpness and colour correction, and three Aspherical Lens (AS) elements virtually eliminate certain types of aberration. A rounded 7-blade diaphragm produces softer, more natural backgrounds, and Internal Focusing (IF) keeps the lens compact and lightweight.

  • Silent Wave Motor:  AF-S NIKKOR lenses feature Nikon’s Silent Wave Motor (SWM). This technology converts “traveling waves” into rotational energy to focus the optics. This enables high-speed autofocusing that's extremely accurate and super quiet.
  • M/A:  Select NIKKOR lenses have a focusing mode which allows switching from automatic to manual focusing with virtually no lag time by simply turning the focusing ring on the lens. This makes it possible to seamlessly switch to fine manual focusing while looking through the viewfinder.
  • AS:  AS stands for Aspherical lens elements. This type of lens utilizes non-spherical surfaces on either one or both sides of the glass in order to eliminate certain types of lens aberration.
  • Super Integrated Coating:  Nikon Super Integrated Coating is Nikon's term for its multilayer coating of the optical elements in NIKKOR lenses.
  • ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) Glass:   An optical glass developed by Nikon that is used with normal optical glass in telephoto lenses to obtain optimum correction of chromatic aberrations.
  • IF Lens:   A NIKKOR lens in which only the internal lens group shifts during focusing. Thus, IF NIKKORS do not change in size during AF operation, allowing for compact, lightweight lenses capable of closer focusing distances. These lenses will be designated with the abbreviation IF on the lens barrel.

Nikon 18-35mm F3.5 -4.5 - I was deliberating between this lens and the 16-35 F4 for a long while but decided in the end after reading many reviews to purchase on the basis of weight, perceived relative performance and VFM - this lens is super light especially teamed with the D750 for travel and landscapes, okay its not as wide as the 16-35 and is not a constant aperture but it weighs nearly half as much, costs much less, also the resolution, sharpness is very very good , minimal distortion and good saturation .The Variable aperture has not been an issue after all I predominantly use this for landscapes and interior shots where I generally shoot at f8 or smaller anyway so I don't need a large aperture or fixed aperture, The build quality is reasonable, not to pro standards naturally but is perfectly fine - I think this lens is a little gem, underrated probably, and glad I added this to my kit - whats the point of a heavy fixed aperture lens that stays on the shelf or cupboard, when this lightweight wonder mounted on the lightweight D750 makes trekking for landscapes and travel a breeze Highly recommended

Took this on our visit to Berlin and was well impressed with both the sharpness and contrast of the images I got on an FX sensor body. I would have liked a slightly larger zoom range but, at the price!! Excellent. Buy with confidence.
