Superb f/1.4, wide-angle prime lens for serious photographers
The exceptional AF-S NIKKOR 24mm f/1.4G ED combines compelling wide-angle perspective with an ultra-fast f/1.4 aperture to serve the needs of demanding professionals in challenging conditions. Natural wide angle of view, extreme light gathering capability and the latest Nikon lens technologies deliver extraordinary performance to meet a broad range of challenging assignments.
The f/1.4 aperture advantage
The AF-S NIKKOR 24mm f/1.4G ED excels in low-light settings for new and exciting shooting opportunities. Nikon’s Extra-low Dispersion (ED) glass ensures sharpness and contrast even at larger apertures, and an exclusive Nano Crystal Coating (N) reduces the lens flare and ghosting typically seen with wide-angle lenses.
Nikon technology for superior imaging
The outstanding capabilities and superlative performance of the AF-S NIKKOR 24mm f/1.4 are the result of Nikon’s latest advances in professional imaging. Optimized for FX-format cameras but equally powerful on DX-format cameras, the AF-S NIKKOR 24mm f/1.4G ED unleashes the full potential of advanced D-SLRs.
Silent Wave Motor
AF-S NIKKOR lenses feature Nikon’s Silent Wave Motor, which represents a significant advance in AF lens technology.
Nano Crystal Coat
An anti-reflective coating developed by Nikon that virtually eliminates internal lens element reflections across a wide range of wavelengths.
ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) Glass
An optical glass developed by Nikon that is used with normal optical glass in telephoto lenses to obtain optimum correction of chromatic aberrations.
AS stands for Aspherical lens elements. This type of lens utilizes non-spherical surfaces on either one or both sides of the glass in order to eliminate certain types of lens aberration.
Select NIKKOR lenses have a focusing mode which allows switching from automatic to manual focusing with virtually no lag time by simply turning the focusing ring on the lens.
Rear Focusing System
A system in which only the rear lens group moves during focusing, thus eliminating changes in the physical length of the lens during focusing and enabling faster focusing. Such lenses are designated with RF on the lens barrel.
Once again we are dealing with a fast prime lens, manufactured by a reputable company, costing a lot of money, which, despite many unquestionable advantages, has several painful slip-ups as well.
A wide angle lens with a bright maximum aperture of f/1.4 should be of interest to those who like shooting by available light as the brightness fades, or indoors.
I have owned this lens for 2 years now. I've been back-filling my lens line-up with the pro versions due to reliability, durability and IQ. This lens has decent IQ for landscapes, some scenes it handles well, some scenes not so much.
Like the Nikon HG 10x42, which fared very well in our big test of the 10x42 class, the 8x42 model impressed us as well. First of all its perfectly corrected, flat field of view, sharp to the very edge, caught our attention; what’s more, its distortion is low, the coma – moderate and the brightness...
Nikon's latest wide angle prime sports a bright maximum aperture of f/1.4, silent focusing and Nano-Crystal coatings.
At $2,200, the expectations for this lens have to be high. The 24mm ƒ/1.4G almost reaches them. Certainly, stopped down, the lens produces exceptional results, but as the main feature of the lens is its extremely wide aperture - ƒ/1.4 - we imagine the lens will spend much of its time here,...
I was given the opportunity to test this lens, using my Nikon D750 I had a couple of events to put it to practice and see how it performed. Covering this year's Oxjam Norwich Music Festival 2017, I covered 2 venues.
If you need performance at f/2, get it. If you can live with f/4, one of the pro-quality zooms (Tokina 16-28; Nikon 14-24) is less expensive and will do just as well.
My work includes survey and architecture photography. This lens is perfect for interior work, fast not too heavy and produces very sharp images. I purchased it to have a lighter alternative to the excellent 14 - 24 lens and it compliments it very well.
an incredible lens, but suffers badly from focus shift, which is unacceptable at that price level.
The most awesome focal length for FX landscapes, and the next most awesome on DX (1.5x 24mm =36mm) . I doubt anything better will be made in the next 50 years.
Every time I treat myself to some top quality Nikon glass, I am astonished at how expensive it is - and every time I look through it, I am really happy that I spent the money. This lens lets you do things you thought were impossible and, amazingly, actually seems like good value!
This lens is very expensive and really a speciality lens, but if you need it or have a use for it its the best 24mm lens on the market. Ultra sharp right from wide open at f1.4, at f2.8 its sharper than Nikon's 14-24 and Nikon's 24-70.
It's as sharp at f/1.4 as my 17-35 is at f/5.6! And the bokeh is excellent for such a wide angle optic. The AF is almost completely inaudible, and although not as fast as my f/2.8 zooms', it makes up for it in focus accuracy.
This professional G series Nikon lens produces sharp images offering superb low light performance for those shooting in ambient light. The price is high but that is in accordance with the Nikon pro series image quality and build design.
