EXPERIENCE THE MOMENT CATCH ALL THE DETAILS

Stay agile and flexible, but always get the shot. With its useful 70-200mm range, constant F4 aperture, L-series image quality and 5-stop optical image stabilisation, this compact telephoto zoom will deliver stunning results in all weathers.

Compact, light and portable

Ideal for travel, sports and wildlife thanks to its compact size and lightweight, the lens has pro features in small size and won’t take up much room in a kit bag.

Pro-grade image quality

As well as Air Sphere Coating, four UD lenses correct aberrations while a 9-blade iris and constant F4 aperture give superb bokeh, even at its closest focus of 0.6m.

Advanced stabilisation

Designed for stable handheld shooting, the Optical Image Stabilizer gives great confidence, with up to 5-stops available.

Quiet, fast and precise AF

Dual Nano USM motors bring incredible new levels of rapid and silent continuous focusing, perfect for stills or video.

No compromise construction

This L-series lens features weather-sealing and fluorine coatings to guard against dust and water, plus heat resistant paint to reflect heat in sunny conditions.

5-Stop Optical Image Stabilizer

The RF 70-200mm F4L IS USM features a new Optical Image Stabilizer offering 5-stops compensation. The combination of this technology and high-speed RF communication means that the performance of this lens surpasses the best technology in the EF range, allowing photographers to choose longer exposures without camera shake affecting the resulting image.

Dual Nano USM focusing motor

The RF 70-200mm F4L IS USM features dual focus motors. Using two Nano USM AF motors helps drive the lightweight optical elements with speed, precision and control making it ideal for both stills and video usage. One Nano USM is used for the conventional focusing group and the other for the floating focus group, to ensure high speed focusing, a more compact lens design and improve close focusing.

The new EF 70-200mm F4L IS II USM represents a major update of Canon's venerable 70-200mm F4 lens, replacing the 12 year old Mark I version by introducing a number of significant improvements.

TechRadar UK

The Canon telephoto delivers fabulous image quality through its zoom range, along with the some of the best lab scores for sharpness for a lens of this type.

Trusted Reviews

Overall, the f/4 lens clearly plays second fiddle on paper but it is a very easy lens to carry and to use. Though it is expensive it is only roughly half that of the f/2.8 version, based on Canons SRPs.

LensTip.com

Can the high price be a con too? I did write this as a con and I would leave it if the stabilization was the only difference between the 70-200 f/4L IS and its predecessor. But there is more! The picture resolution is a bit better and the bright light performance is better.

Practical Photography

With built-in image stabilisation and strong image quality, but the widest aperture of f/4 isn’t the best on the market.

ePHOTOzine

A compact telephoto zoom lens from Canon's 'L' series sporting an image stabilisation and silent ultrasonic focusing.

TechRadar UK

A major upgrade of Canon’s popular 70-200mm f/4 IS lens, the new Mark II remains relatively compact and lightweight, but packs a heavyweight punch in terms of performance.

PhotoReview

Offering a similar level of performance to the much more expensive RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM lens, the RF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM represents a wise choice for photographers who don’t need the one-stop advantage the f/2.8L lens provides as well as those looking for a more portable lens for hand-held...

PC Magazine

The Canon RF 70-200mm F4 L IS USM is a compact zoom with quick focus and exquisite optics. Pros may still want a F2.8 zoom, but this is more than enough lens for most photographers.

The Digital Picture

The Canon RF 70-200mm F2.8 L IS USM Lens was a game-changer, and the Canon RF 70-200mm F4 L IS USM Lens is the same, taking the game down to a new size and weight low. Those carrying this frequently-needed telephoto zoom lens for extended periods will love this lens's new size and weight.

This lens really is a stroke of genius by Canon. Compact, lightweight, well built with great image quality. The lens is barely larger than the RF 24-105mm f4L IS USM. I've used it for studio portraits and landscapes so far and I'm impressed with the image quality and ease of use on both my EOS R and...

Canon

Been running an EF 70-200 is on a R6 with excellent results. The stabilisation is a bit noisy but as I don't do much video this is not a major problem. Otherwise for an amateur on a budget like myself the functionality on the R mount is great.

This lens is very very sharp and the image quality is almost the same as the f2.8. That said it is a great vacation telephoto lens to take on a vacation at 1/2 the weight of it\'s f 2.8 big brother. If you shoot weddings or concerts the 2.8 is the better choice.

Canon

even with the 1.4xii converter. This is a beautiful lens great on both my cropped and full frame cameras. Quick to focus and accurate and quite light to carry. If you don't need the f2.8 aperture this lens is perfect Highly recommended

Bought to replace an older 70-200 lens, this one is much smaller, lighter but still a great lens, especially when fitted to the EOS R6

WEX

This is a game-changer! The compactness of this zoom in combination with the excellent build quality, AF and sharpness truly makes carrying a 70-200mm zoom on walks & hikes with its sister lens the RF 24-105mm f4L a breeze for everyone. Really nothing to complain about at all.

LensTip.com

Until the arrival of the 70-200 f/2.8 IS II version it was the best telephoto zoom ever made for the Canon EOS mount. Now just the second best... :P Worths every penny.

Canon

The images from this lens are pin sharp. But I find to achieve that (for large print sizes) one needs fast shutter speeds or a tripod, particularly when using it at the longer focal lengths. But that applies to any longer focal length lens to utilise its maximum optical sharpness potential.

Wex Photo Video

Great size, so very portable. Sharpness is Great, combined with the r6 makes good results easy.
