Sharpness from life-size (1:1) to infinity

The compact AF-S DX Micro NIKKOR 85mm f/3.5G ED VR is ideal for extreme close-up and general photography. Nikon VR (Vibration Reduction) image stabilization provides 3.0 stops of blur free handheld shooting, assuring dramatically sharper still images and HD video capture. Discover a world of unseen detail with stunning sharpness and beautiful background bokeh in close-up, nature, portrait and general photography applications.

Stunning results in many applications

Optimized for DX-format cameras, the AF-S DX Micro NIKKOR 85mm f/3.5G ED VR delivers exceptional images, reproducing every detail in true-to-life brilliance thanks to a host of Nikon lens technologies. Silent Wave Motor (SWM) provides ultra-fast, ultra-quiet internal autofocusing from infinity to life-size (1:1 reproduction ratio). SWM also allows for seamless manual focus override—key when shooting live subjects like insects or flowers. Extra-low Dispersion (ED) glass elements provide superior sharpness and colour reproduction, and Super Integrated Coating (SIC) virtually eliminates ghosting and lens flare.

Vibration Reduction

A Nikon in-lens technology that improves image stability by automatically compensating for camera shake. Lenses that offer VR will feature the abbreviation VR on the lens barrel.

Silent Wave Motor

AF-S NIKKOR lenses feature Nikon’s Silent Wave Motor, which represents a significant advance in AF lens technology.

ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) Glass

An optical glass developed by Nikon that is used with normal optical glass in telephoto lenses to obtain optimum correction of chromatic aberrations.

M/A

Select NIKKOR lenses have a focusing mode which allows switching from automatic to manual focusing with virtually no lag time by simply turning the focusing ring on the lens.

IF Lens

A NIKKOR lens in which only the internal lens group shifts during focusing. These lenses will be designated with the abbreviation IF on the lens barrel.

The Nikon AF-S DX Micro-Nikkor 85mm f3.5G ED VR is a very compact and lightweight macro lens for Nikon DX digital SLR cameras, which also comes at a competitive price. Because of its focal length and angle of view, it doubles as a portrait lens too – despite the slow-ish maximum aperture of f/3.5.

LensTip.com

If you compare the number of pros and cons and realize it is one of the cheaper macro lenses with the focal lengths ranging from 60 to 105 mm, the Nikkor 3.5/85 VR can be a very interesting option for potential customers.

ePHOTOzine

Nikon's latest Micro Nikkor optic strikes a good compromise. It is a lens packed with the latest technology and features, but at a price that is really quite reasonable. Although the performance of this lens may not be up with the best of Nikon's macro optics, it is certainly good enough to satisfy...

This is my first attempt at macro photography, so I will not be the most qualified reviewer, but I am delighted with my purchase. I have had a couple of try-outs with the lens and realise that I have a lot to learn.

As a macro novice this lens is ecellent, my first attempts I expected to be pretty rough, but all I have tried has come out very well indeed and I put that down to this being a very good high quality lens with a great feel.

A cracker of a macro lens. Small, lightweight, great image quality and the VR is the icing on the cake. I just wish there was some Summer weather so I could put it to more use. Goodbye Sigma 150.

Got this to shoot small products from circut boards to individual chips in a light tent. Well worth it - my first prime and makes a big difference over the stock zooms supplied with the D90.

You don't hear much about the 85mm DX Micro, which is a real shame. The optics are superb and this is a lovely small and lightweight macro lens for Nikon DX format cameras. What I really like about this lens is its relatively long working distance, which allows you to take pictures of bugs and...

I am very happy with this lens. I don't have that much experience of macro, but it seems to do what I bought it for very well. I get sharp images right down to 1:1. The working distance is not too close, so hand held is possible, though for real close up a tripod is highly desirable.

Wex Photo Video

I bought this lens to replace my Nikon 60mm as it did not have VR, the 85mm with VR allows me to take macro images without a tripod, and the extra 25mm makes for a great portrait lens.
